I'm having a really hard time falling asleep after what I shared in the previous post. I'm laying in bed, just getting more and more pissed off because I can't change our course right now. We can't move and I'm feeling like a complete failure as a result.
As I'm laying there getting more and more frustrated because I can't sleep, I heard loud noises coming for our attic.
I've been talking about trying to get rid of squirrels in our attic for the last couple of weeks. We've even placed a live trap up there but haven't heard anything since the trap was placed.
Of course, tonight would be the night that the noises returned. The noise was right above our room and it was really loud. I brought up the camera I placed in the attic so I could monitor the trap from wherever I happen to be. I want the squirrels out but I don't want to kill them by not knowing they had been trapped.
Anyway, to my surprise, this is what I saw.

Turns out it's not squirrels or at least the squirrels have much larger, scarier roommate. In fact, we've never actually seen a squirrel in the attic so they may not be a factor at all.
This raccoon is fucking huge and I don't have a clue how to get rid of it. I tried screaming through the intercom on my camera but it only made it curious about the camera. This is the second raccoon we've had invade our home. The first one was killed by Maggie. At the time, we didn't know it was a raccoon and she tore off up into the attic. We thought she would scare the shit out of the squirrels but turns out it was much more serious.
Maggie defended her home and the raccoon met an untimely demise. I'm not happy it died but the kids used to go into the attic and that could have been very dangerous, especially because it was during the day. Thankfully, Maggie was okay and didn't get injured in any way.

Things were quiet after that for awhile but the noises came back recently. We once again assumed they were squirrels because there are so many of them around our house.
Unfortunately, this is much worse and this fucking raccoon has trashed our attic. We never go up there anymore so I didn't realize how much of a mess it had made. It makes so much more sense now because we couldn't figure out how the squirrels knocked so many large boxes over.
I have no idea what to do and I'm now far too freaked out to sleep tonight. Obviously, at the very least, I need a much bigger trap because the one up there is for smaller animals. I barricaded the attic door so it couldn't force its way out. I feel like this may be way above my pay grade but at the same time, I can't afford an exterminator.
We can't go back up there now. I don't know where it is or if it's sleeping in a pile of stuffed animals. The last thing we need is to surprise it and end up getting attacked.
I'll tell you what. We need to catch a fricking break in the worst way right now. This has to be addressed. I just don't know how to go about addressing it.
