I think my #autistic son is messing with me but I’m not sure

My oldest Gavin, is driving me crazy today. I know, it must be a Tuesday. This is a new behavior and I’m not sure what the fuck is happening or why.

I’ve shared over the years that Gavin narrates his life. If he thinks it, oftentimes he says it out loud. You can’t shut the kid up and he drives everyone nuts. I get that many of you out there might have nonverbal kids and you may be offended by my frustration. Please know that having raised both verbal, and nonverbal kids, I get it. There are also major challenges when our kids are verbal as well.

Anyway, Gavin has started whispering instead of talking. Lately, he’s talking so quietly that I can’t make out what he’s saying and yet he’s expecting my response.

His newest thing is he will stand at my bedroom doorway and attempt to carry on a conversation with me. I have no idea what the fuck he’s saying and I have to remind him that he’s whispering. He will then say, no I’m not and that leads to a barely audible back and forth exchange about how he’s talking so quietly that no one can hear him.

It’s incredibly frustrating and there’s a part of me that honestly thinks he’s just fucking with me. He’s recently become a jokester and that’s awesome. The problem is that he’s difficult to read and you don’t always know what’s a joke and what’s serious.

If he is indeed just fucking with me and doing this on purpose, this is some next level fuckery on his part and all I can say is touché Gavin, touché.
