It’s been a long day, and I’m exhausted. We had a good deal of running around that needed to be done. My replacement phone finally came in, and we needed to hit the dispensary so Lizze could pick up her medicine. It’s still bizarre saying that out loud or even talking about it, but it’s been a godsend for her, and I’m grateful for that.
Gavin has been a bit trying today. He’s extra talkative lately, and I’m trying to be patient, but it’s not easy. He’s not doing any of this on purpose or to make life difficult. He simply lacks the impulse control needed not to say everything that pops into his head. 😀
We survived the morning and eventually picked the kids up from school before going to visit my grandmother for a little while. The kids love to have ice cream with her. The nursing home provides snacks and meals for family members when they visit. It’s all free and a great at to spend time with her, especially if you’re a kid.
My grandmother will tell Elliott or Emmett what she wants, and they run to get it for her. It’s really a cool experience.
On a side note, I’ve been watching out for her this week while my parents went on vacation for their anniversary. I only had one night that I had to run out there after hours. She had gotten confused and called my aunt who lives out of town. My aunt called my brother, and he called me.
She ended up being fine. A little confused but okay. She wanted spaghetti at 9 PM, but the closest thing I could find her was chicken noodle soup. She felt terrible about bothering me, but I shut that notion down. It’s not a bother.
I love spending time with her, and I’m happy to help in any way I possibly can. She’s done so much for us in her life; it’s an honor to be able to give back.
I digress.
Anyway, we cut our visit short because I wanted to get to my parent’s house and cut their grass before the bad weather arrived. It’s been threatening thunderstorms all day, and we were pressed for time. My parents both have bad knees, and my Mom is having a knee replacement in the very near future. I didn’t want them to come home from vacation and have to worry about the lawn.
The boys practiced a bit with the lawnmower, and Gavin helped in ways that he was able to. It’s quite tough keeping their attention but I’m proud of them, and I appreciate their help.
By the time we were done, it was after dinner, and I didn’t feel like cooking. We ordered some pizza and ended the night quietly.
I wasn’t able to get much actual paid work done today, but the things we did accomplish were important and made a difference in someone’s life.
I’m exhausted, and in need of at least a few hours of sleep tonight, so I’m going to end things here for, but I’ve heard a rumor that we may be childless tomorrow. 😀
