I'm going to keep this super quick because I'm exhausted and if I can get the kids to fall asleep, I'm going straight to bed.
It's been a really long day, full of tears and heartache.
Yesterday I shared about a very difficult decision we might be having to make in regards to Zane, one of the boys service ferrets. You can check this *link* for the background.

We took Zane back to the vet this morning and our worst fears were realized. Zane's back legs were now almost completely paralyzed and it was progressing quickly. He was much worse off this morning, then he was the night before.
The vet explained that there were three possibilities. Unfortunately, all three possibilities involved tumors and none of them resulted in a positive outcome.
Zane could only move by dragging his back legs around behind him and he was exhausted.
It was heartbreaking and the vet explained that there was only one humane thing we could do and that was putting him to sleep. There was no hope of recovery and Zane was going to suffer if we didn't.

It was awful but Lizze and I ensured that Zane would never feel any pain. He passed away peacefully at 10:30 am. It was incredibly painful for a number of reasons.
Zane was an amazing member of our family. We knew the boys would be heartbroken and Zane made the 3rd pet loss to cancer over the last year. It sucked but we did the right thing.
As it turns out, he wasn't sick with a bacterial infection after all.
We had the horrible job to breaking the news to the kids and they didn't take it well. We had an appointment with Dr. Pattie after school to help them begin to process everything.
Tonight's been a mixed bag and I'm not sure if they are going to ever fall asleep tonight. I'm hoping they do because they need the rest and we need the rest. The plan is to get them to school in the morning because they need their routine and the distraction.
Also, Gavin's got an appointment that has us very nervous and the boys need not be involved. Lizze and I need to be there for Gavin and we can't if the boys are home from school.
I'm so done for the night.....
