Major Update on Gavin's missing medications

Throughout the day, I had about half a dozen different conversations in regards to Gavin not receiving his IVIG medications and supplies. I spoke with his doctor, his insurance case manager and the head pharmacist at the pharmacy we want to switch to for his supplies.

Let's get this out of the way first.

Gavin's doctor's office was finally able to get things straightened out with our current supplier. The supplier appears to be who dropped the ball on this one.

Setting aside blame and focusing on what matters most at this very moment. I can share that Gavin's medications have been reordered. They should be arriving on Wednesday.

How am I going to prevent this from happening again? The simple solution to fix this is going to be complicated and time consuming. The only way to avoid this going forward is to move to a supplier that can be more diligent, deliver on time and not short us on supplies.

This is complicated because GAMMAGARD is considered a speciality medication and because of that, there's an approval process we have to go through in order to make this move.

I've spoken to Gavin's case manager who doesn't seem to think it will be a problem but she's checking to make sure.

The new pharmacy we want to move this to is happy to do anything they can to help but said we need to make it through the insurance barrier first and the general thought seems to be that this *will* be a problem. I'll have to wait to hear back from Gavin's case manager before I know anything for sure.

It's important to understand that this isn't a medication that is stocked by any pharmacy and needs to be dropped shipped in a refrigerated manner. Once received, it will be immediately delivered to our house.

I don't think they've actually done this before but it shouldn't be a problem, as long as insurance is on board.

At this point, everything should be fixed and we should be receiving his deliveries until we can make the switch. For now, I'm just grateful that his doctors fought for him today and made things work until we can move on.

Gavin will be quite relieved to receive his infusion, hopefully sometime tomorrow. Yay... This is a pretty awesome victory.. ☺
