Maggie got to spend some time outside of her kennel tonight. That may not seem like news worthy of a post but she’s just finishing up her first full week of living in her kennel.
Maggie recently severed her ACL, meaning it’s no longer attached to anything.
The surgery needed to fix this is $6000.00 on the low end. Since that’s not possible, the vet wants her to be on complete bed rest for 2 weeks. This means she lives in her kennel. I take her out into the yard to go potty but only on a leash, so she can’t make anything worse.
The idea behind all of this is that with rest, the injury will scar over and return use of her leg. She may limp every once in awhile but will be otherwise okay.
I let her lay on the couch with me a bit tonight, which is okay, as long as I have a leash on her so she can’t chase the cats or anything like that.
She’s actually walking on her leg now and that’s progress because she couldn’t put any weight on it at all before.
It’s important to note that she’s not in any pain because the ACL is completely severed and not just torn.
We have at least another week to go and we’ll see how she does after that.
I’d rather give her an extra week to recover than rush anything and have her undo the healing that’s already happened.
Anyway, I just wanted to give you all an update on how Miss. Maggie is doing. So far, she’s doing better and the rest seems to really be helping. ☺
