As you may know, for whatever reason, Lizze is in menopause. Technically, at her young age of 32,its called premature ovarian failure but they are both the same thing, according to her doctor.
One of my biggest concerns was that because of her history of blood clots, she would be forced to endure this change of life, without any help.
Turns out I was wrong. Although, I still don’t understand why but there isn’t much about this that I fully understand anyways for I guess it’s par for the course.
Her new endocrinologist that specializes in menopause, is putting her on estrogen.
This is where I’m confused because I didn’t think she could safely have hormone replacement therapy. Apparently, I was wrong.
Lizze, on Monday, will begin receiving estrogen via a small patch about the size of an eraser head. This will deliver a low dose of estrogen transdermally. It’s been explained that this is safe and also at a low dose.
Her doctor is also checking for things like clotting factors and other things related to clotting disorders, which I believe she’s tested negative for in the past.
Either way, this will help to replace what she’s missing and with any luck, begin improving the parts of her health that are being impacted by her ovaries no longer working.
I dropped off the script today and it should be ready on Monday.
Apparently, insurance doesn’t cover it but we got this coupon that lasts for 12 months and I believe the out of pocket expense is only like $25. It’s going to be the best $25 I’ve spent in a very, very long time.
Today’s been particularly rough for Lizze and her body and mind are completely exhausted. It’s easy to see in her eyes, that’s she’s just spent. Hopefully, this will begin to help and she will soon find at least some relief from the visitor that has arrive about 2 decades before the party was supposed to begin.
For now, I may be confused but I know that we are making steps in the right direction.
