#Autism: Where does “normal” kid behavior fit in?

I woke up this morning to Elliott screaming at Lizze and refusing to get ready for school. He’s been doing this more and more often.  Nothing is going on at school, so that’s not an issue.

It’s like anytime that we ask Elliott to do something that he doesn’t want to, he completely freaks out.

Sound like anyone else we know?

I have no idea what to do aside from holding him accountable for choices.

The big triggers are asking him to get dressed or undressed.  We want him to change out of his school clothes after school and he refuses..

Ya know, as a parent raising 3 boys with special needs, it’s very tough for me to know where “normal kid behaviors”  fit into any of this.  Is this autism related? Is this a phase that kids go through? Is this a combination of both or something totally different?

Not a good way to begin the day.  🙁

Oh, and my youngest with PANDAS did something similar today. His OCD is getting pretty bad too. Its either a fight to get dressed or a fight over who is driving him to school.

How old is Elliot? I have noticed around 7, 8 and 9, my son was a bit more wanting to run the show and be the boss. He is on the spectrum too.

@rmagliozzi Elliott is 6 years old now.
