I wanted to take a minute and help you to have a better understanding of what the Lost and Tired family is going through when it comes to Elliott’s food allergies.
My hope it that by better understanding our situation, you may be able to apply what you’ve learned and the insight that you’ve gain, to help support someone in your life, going through something similar.
Below you will find a letter that we received from Elliott’s immunologist/allergist.
These are the detailed instructions provided to the school, in regards to Elliott and his allergy. I was actually surprised to see how ridged this was. I’m still learning about just how serious a tree nut allergy is.
If it’s this bad at school, just imagine what it’s like at home. A family dealing with a serious food allergy can’t afford to make a single mistake. That mistake could cost the life of the child affected.
When someone you know tells you that things have to be a certain way because their child has a serious allergy, yours is not to question but to listen and support. Life is difficult enough when your trying to make your child’s life safer. Having to worry about people following the guidelines and understanding is very counter productive.
Thankfully our families are on board and we don’t have to worry about that.
However, I know many families out there aren’t so lucky. I hope the following letter helps you to become more aware of the serious and potentially deadly nature of food allergies.
