Last night, Elliott woke up just before I climbed into bed. He and Emmett had been camping out in his room. Elliott had a bad dream and couldn’t go back to sleep.
I finally had Elliott just crash in Emmett’s bed.
About 45 minutes later, I woke up out of a dead sleep, choking. I literally couldn’t breathe.
I wasn’t choking on anything, however, my airway was completely occluded.
The only reason Lizze woke up was because I was flailing around, half on the bed and half on the floor. I honestly thought I was going to die.
The entire incident lasted about 1 minute but that was the longest minute of my life.
Finally, my airway began to open and I couldn’t breathe once again. I happened to look over where Elliott was sleeping and he had witnessed the whole thing. He had a look of horror on his face and he was quite shook up.
I believe what happened was that I was choking on post nasal drip. I think it was just one of those freak things that just happen.
Needless to say, I didn’t sleep very well.
I’m very grateful to still be here today, even though it’s a Monday.
I know from experience how scary that is. Had bronchitis a few years ago and woke up coughing. Went to inhale after the cough and I couldn’t for at least 30 seconds. Panic doesn’t even begin to describe it. I’m glad you’re ok.Also, sorry I haven’t been around much, Long Island got hit HARD with Sandy. 🙁
That must have been really frightening. My husband does something like that sometimes at night: stops breathing for a few seconds and then kind of twitches, heaves, and starts again. Sleep apnea. In my husband’s case, it’s the 30 pounds he’s put on lately. It sounds like yours was much worse, though.
@dotdash that may very well be the case with me.
Yep that would be scary! Glad you’re okay…you need to take something to clear that out!
Scary.
