Emmett spent the night at Lizze’s parents house last night. He came home a few hours ago and just now woke up from his nap.
Life was relatively calm and quiet last night and for much ofbthis morning.
With that said, within 5 minutes of Emmett coming home, the screaming and fighting resumed as though it had been paused during Emmett’s absence.
Emmett went down for his nap and peace returned to the house once again. However, within minutes of him waking up, the battles resumed once more.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad Emmett’s home because I miss him like crazy when he’s gone. Having said that, it’s clear that he is the source of most of the upheaval in the Lost and Tired household. I want to clarify that, I should have said, Emmett’s behaviors are the source of most of the upheaval in the Lost and Tired household. I want to be clear on that.
Most of the problems, I believe, stem from his inability to effectively communicate. I think he gets frustrated when his brothers, mainly Elliott, don’t understand what he wants. As he becomes more and more frustrated, he begins to lash out.
I don’t believe that his intentions are to cause problems, I think he simply doesn’t know what else to do.
All we can do is continue to work with him and his brothers. We need to help bridge the communication gaps and provide a means to reach a better understanding of what’s going on. The boys tend to view this as Emmett being a bully, and they are right, however, if we can help the boys to better understand why Emmett is so frustrated, maybe we can avoid some ofbthe behavior.
Perhaps that’s just wishful thinking but it’s all I have at this point.
Had a similar experience in the Westie house yestderday:
While Bec was out of the house with Magpie picking up Princess P from a sleepover, BTB Fan was the best kid in the world. Affectionate. Talkative (in his limited manner). Sharing.
Within minutes of Bec and the other two getting home, there were three whining kids, and Magpie was whining mainly about his brother kicking or biting him – because of course he'd taken something off his brother the moment he walked into the room. *rage ensued* *calm returned*
Having said that, we ended the day by going to the river and everyone got on really well (it was pushing 100F here in Sydney yesterday, today we're looking for jumpers again – stupid spring weather).
