Autism complicates...things

Part of the frustration for me with Gavin is simply the lack of ability to get accurate information from him. I know it's likely an Aspergers thing and most of the time it's just a bit annoying but sometimes it's much more frustrating. The times I find it the most frustrating are when his health is involved. He is simply not a reliable source of information about himself.... That sounded weird..but you get my point...right? Right now Gavin just drank a large bottle of "stuff" (can't remember the name) that is going to empty his entire colon in a short amount of time. This is what they do to prep patients the night before a *colonoscopy*. Gavin is so backed up that this was necessary in order to ensure he doesn't develop a blockage and also to ease the cramping he has been experiencing, on and off.

Part of the reason this is necessary is because we can't seem to keep tabs on how he's doing in this department. He forgets to tell us that he went and when we ask he can't even remember if he went to the bathroom at all that day. I'm going to try to come up with a simple system to remind him to tell us or at least help him to remember when we ask. If we could get through all this crap (oh...look...I made a funny) then we can catch these things before they become a bigger problem.

Autism can be frustrating AND overwhelming, all by itself. However, when your child has other health issues as well, and many Autisitic kids do, the communication barriers created by Autism, can really make caring for the other health concerns VERY challenging.  *Do any of you experience similar things when it comes to your ASD child?*
