My most important job is guiding these amazing humans through life

The boys have had a pretty good day today. I wanted to try and do something kinda fun, so when I ordered groceries, I added some things to the list that we could cook on the grill. It's nothing spectacular but it's a change of pace and the boys love cooking on the grill. Emmett physically went to school today for in person learning and had a fantastic day. Elliott is still remote learning full time because his school hasn't reopened and won't until the fall. Gavin approached me this afternoon about learning some new skills that he thinks would be useful for when he moves out. I was kinda caught off guard by his request, and some of the things he wants to learn are sorta random, but I…

I have several challenging goals this week

My goal for this week is a couple of things. I have a podcast episode to finish up by Friday, we're prepping the outside of the house for painting, finishing out the last week of school, getting the kids moving forward after some difficult decisions were made, and getting business back up and running. That sounds like quite a bit and it actually is but they're all necessary. Some are necessary evils, while others are just necessary. The two weighing most heavily are getting business back to pre-COVID performance and helping the boys get passed this stuff with their mom. Getting business back will allow us to move and getting the kids through their through their current situation will help all of us to move forward. None of this stuff…

My kids visit their mom this week and I have nothing planned for myself

I took the kids hiking today. We found a new trail, where we don't run into anyone else, which is why we don't have masks on in the picture. We had our masks with us in case we came across other humans but we didn't. The kids are going to see their mom this week and I don't think they could be any more excited. Assuming everyone is still healthy, the kids will go to school on Wednesday and I'll drop them off around 2pm. I have absolutely nothing planned for my time while the kids are gone. It would be ideal for me to have a list of things I want to accomplish but the reality is that I don't get breaks very often right now. The kids will…

I’m so proud of myself for pushing through

I feel fricking amazing because I set out to tackle a project and I saw it through to completion. That's a big deal to me and I'm really proud of myself for pushing through my overwhelming desire to give up. Emmett helped me and I was able to teach him a little at the same time. I mentioned before that I wanted to conceal and manage all the wires, cables and everything else related to my podcasr that could be tucked away neatly. Yes, I realize the cables going into and out of the cloud lifter are incorrectly installed. It's fixed. ☺ The underside of my table now contains all wires and cables for my laptop, mixing board, cloud lifter, microphone, and power supplies. Everything is secured, organized and out…

Melissa Hruza on adoptaclassroom.org and funding teachers? (S2E5)

This week Melissa Hruza, Director of Marketing and Corporate Sponsorships at adoptaclassroom.org stopped by to discuss how they are helping teachers and students all over the country, find the funding they need. So many teachers have to pay for classroom necessities out of their own pocket and that's simply unacceptable. Adoptaclassroom.org is a national, award-winning nonprofit that provides the most flexible and accountable funding for K-12 teachers and schools throughout the U.S. Their proprietary, easy-to-use education fundraising platform helps teachers, principals, and administrators give every child the tools they deserve to succeed in school. Since 1998, they have raised more than $36 million and supported 4.5 million students. As a 501(c)(3) organization, they hold a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator.  In other words, they are doing amazing things for our…

How @LGUS totally saved the day for me and my kids

I just wanted to take a minute and give a shout out to my friends at LG Electronics. We had to replace our TV after about 7 years back in 2018. We would have kept going with what we had but it had finally died. I chose to stick with LG because we had been very happy with our LG Plasma and the LG LCD before that. I tend to stick with brands that have worked out well for us and we don't upgrade TV's very often at all. Anyway, a couple months ago, our new TV began having problems and it was pretty annoying. I don't have a great deal of control in my life right now and when I can address something, I prefer to do that, even…

My kids kicks ass today

We've survived the dentist once again. All three of the boys are cavity-free and in good shape. Elliott was so nervous that I thought he was going to bite the dentist's fingers off, but he also did really well. In other news that's positive, there's a chance that Gavin won't need his wisdom teeth out. That's hugely positive because I think that surgery would be very complicated for someone like Gavin, who has serious health complications. We don't have to make any decisions right now, but we'll reevaluate in six months at his next visit. I'm so proud of all three of my kids. The dentist is not a sensory-friendly experience and many Autistic kids really, really struggle with it. My guys are no exception to that rule but they…
