I don’t know what the right thing to do is

I'm a little hesitant to give Gavin his IVIG infusion today for a couple reasons.   First of all, he's not been feeling well this weekend. He's doing okay now and isn't complaining of anything but it seems to come and go, so there's no telling if or when he'll be under the weather again.  Secondly, even on a good day, he's been suffering side effects from these infusions and they've been pretty rough.  With him already being under the weather, I worry that the infusion may cause him to get sick.  There are times we put it off for a day but that's not something we like to do very often at all. Plus, Gavin's very focused on his routine and deviating from that stresses him out.   I'm…

The good news and the bad news

After a really difficult night with three special needs kids not feelings well, everyone woke up this morning feeling much better. I'm not sure what was going on last night but it was really strange to have all three of them complaining about the same things.  Anyway, that's behind us now and I'm grateful that my kiddos aren't sick today.  The bad news is that I'm seriously dragging.   Being up a large part of the night with Emmett has taken its toll on me. My eyes are really heavy and my brain isn't firing on all cylinders. I'm really hoping to get a brief nap this afternoon but I'm not sure that's gonna happen.  Either way, this is simply part of being a special needs parent.  I know there…

That moment when you resign to the fact that you’ll not likely be getting much sleep tonight

As of 2am, two of the three boys are sleeping soundly.  Emmett on the other hand, is currently close to joining his brothers in sleepy town. The only different is that he's on the couch in the living room and not in his own bed.   Unfortunately, that means that I'm on the adjacent couch, wishing I was sleeping.   Poor Emmett has had such a rough time getting to even this point tonight. His tummy ache was pretty bad but thankfully, his eyes are now closing for longer periods of time.   Before long, he's going to be very much asleep.  I snagged this picture because he's so precious and I wanted to permanently mark this moment in time.

This is not good. It’s definitely not good

Shortly before bedtime tonight, all three of the boys complained of not feeling well. Elliott and Emmett were so bad that they went to bed in our bed because they felt better there together.  Emmett still hasn't been able to sleep but Elliott is out like a light.   Meanwhile, Gavin's looks like death warmed over and feels like he's going to puke. That being said, I think he may have actually fallen asleep.  Everyone is complaining of stomach aches and sore throats.  That's a weird combination but it's the combination we're dealing with nonetheless.  I'm not sure what this is but I am sure it's going to be a really long night.

Gavin continues to get worse

Pretty much all Gavin talks about anymore are his missions. On occasion he mixes things up by tossing in some tidbits about his latest tablet game. I'm so burnt out from hearing this stuff.  I can't take anymore of it right now. Not only is it a constant reminder of where he's at right now but it's just too much to process. Right now everything centers around My Little Pony and the Equestrian universe. Gavin's talking about having to infuse his blood into one of the ponies to cure her of being poisoned by the radioactive moon of canus lunus. All this time and I still don't know what the fuck that even is. We have eight more days until he's back at the psychiatrist's office for an evaluation.  I…

It’s been forever

I'm feeling pretty good this morning. I don't remember the last time I was able to sleep in until 10:30am.  Grateful is what I'm feeling this morning because I needed to get some rest..  Lizze and I have no plans for today and that's awesome.

A big change in the way we deal with medications

It's taken almost three months but I'm so excited that Gavin's medications have become so much easier to deal with. Gavin's on quite a few medications and has been for most of his life.   Dispensing them has always been a huge pain in the ass because there are so many. It was pretty easy to make mistakes, especially if we were really tired.  We recently switched pharmacies and are now taking advantage of a free service that does what you see below.   Gavin takes medications every morning and at bedtime.  Rather than manually sorting and dispensing seven different medications in the morning and eight at bedtime, all we have to do is tear off one of these little packets.  The above is a picture of his morning meds,…

It’s been a really awesome day and here’s why

Lizze and I had a pretty awesome day.  The boys left around 2:30pm and it was all relaxation after that.   We had our favorite pizza and then went for a walk at the park.  We ended the day with some ice cream and Supernatural...  All things considered, this was a really amazing day.  We even have most of the day to ourselves tomorrow as well.  This means we can actually sleep in until we're ready to wake up.   It's been a really awesome day...  ☺
