Interview with Dr.Jason Kahn of Mightier

In today's episode, I have a conversation with Dr. Jason Kahn, PhD. Dr. Kahn is a researcher from Boston Children's Hospital, an instructor at Harvard, co-founder and Chief Science Officer of Mightier. Mightier is a program that helps kids learn to self-regulate their emotions by playing video games. That means fewer emotional outbursts or meltdowns, and a reduction of parental stress. This program is absolutely amazing and works for pretty much anyone. I speak with Dr. Kahn about how Mightier was developed, the science behind is and why it works so well. If your child is struggling with meltdowns or emotional outbursts, PLEASE listen and check out Mightier. I've been using it with my youngest for almost a year and it's amazing. I try to never take days like today for granted

It's been a pretty decent day. The boys are into their final week of school for the 2018-2019 school year. They are full of mixed emotions about school ending for the summer, but I'm hoping to make this a positive summer break experience for them. Gavin's IVIG infusion went pretty well. Lizze did another fantastic job placing the needles, and I believe that he made it through without anything leaking. That always makes him happy. I was about to get my walk in before getting the kids from school. I had a close call with Ruby because as I was walking down the sidewalk, and crossing the road into the park, she somehow slipped her harness. I have no idea how that happened, but after she took off, she came…

Sometimes I get really frustrated

Lizze and I ended up doing absolutely nothing but binge Netflix while the kids were gone. The trip with my Dad to retrieve some things for my grandma was postponed until next weekend. I'm waiting on a deposit, and until then, things are incredibly tight. There was no option to go do anything, even if we had the money because Lizze wasn't feeling well. I did go walking and spend some time with my grandma, but that was about it. Sometimes it gets frustrating because it would be so nice to have the ability to go do things that many other families get to do. There's always something that prohibits or limits our ability to do these things. Usually, it's money related, or someone isn't feeling well. There are times…

I’m hoping this helps my grandma

We have a busy and emotionally draining day planned. First of all, the boys are going to spend the night at their grandparent's house. It's been a long week, and this break is both desperately needed, as well as greatly appreciated. I might not be here for most of it because my Dad and I are making the out of town drive to my grandmother's house. She's permanently moved to a nursing home by us, and we want to bring some of her things back so she can have them in her room. We hope that being surrounded by familiar things will help her not only feel more at home but also help her with her worsening confusion. She frequently calls me in a complete panic because she doesn't know…

I’m worried about my oldest

Gavin's having a rough day. He's spent almost the entire day in his room running intense missions. The reason I bring this up is because while Gavin's schizophrenic, he's also Autistic and is very much a creator of habit. He has very specific routines that he follows and if they get disrupted, he is not a happy camper. Routine disruption can be challenging for people with Autism, and Gavin is not exception. So far today, Gavin has ignored most of his routine in lieu of managing a crisis in the Universe he's transported to when he walks through his bedroom door. He's very much on edge and not wanting to tell us anything about it. I'm a little worried because, on any other day, we literally can't get him to…

Pictures from yesterdays therapeutic martial arts promotion

The boys had their end of the school year martial arts promotion yesterday. Both Elliott and Emmett did awesomely. Elliott was promoted to blue belt, and Emmett was promoted to high blue. Lizze and I couldn't possibly be any prouder of them than we are. I posted some video on my Twitter feed yesterday and you can check that out by clicking here. I wanted to let you know how things went and share a couple pictures of the boys from yesterday.

Today’s a big day for the boys

The school year is just about wrapped up. We're finishing the last full week of school for this school year and today is the boy's final martial arts promotion. Emmett will be going first, and his promotion lasts about an hour. Elliott will go next but not for two hours after Emmett finishes. We're going to have a bit of time to kill around lunchtime before we return and watch Elliott get his promotion. This is always an exciting experience, and there is no one more excited than Gavin. He gets so happy to see his brothers doing their martial arts, as well as spending time at his old school. Gavin's a very proud big brother. 😀 Emmett takes this very seriously because he's very much into martial arts. Elliott,…
