You’ve got to be kidding me

I sort of feel like the powers that be are shooting at the ground around my feet and screaming dance monkey dance. The last seven days have been a nightmarish blur. We've survived it, and I'm grateful, but the ride isn't over just yet. First, we had Gavin come off his meds and go completely psychotic. He went back on his meds and was rushed to the emergency room a few hours later. He was released the following day, and we came home to Elliott not feeling well. Elliott ended up going to school on Monday because he was feeling fine, only to be sent home after developing a fever. He was home the entire week and was joined by Emmett on Wednesday. Mr. Emmett spiked a fever and had…

Just a few things I’m thankful for

It's been a lot of doom and gloom lately because of life throwing so crazy shit in our direction, with laser-guided precision. In the spirit of Easter, I wanted to take a step back and gain some much-needed perspective. What better way to do that then share a few things I'm thankful for. 😀 First of all, I'm grateful for my family. We often find ourselves struggling or facing obstacles that may seem impossible in the moment, but we always find a way. I can't ask for more than that. My wife and kids are absolutely amazing and the light of my life. ☺ We have family on both sides that are incredibly supportive, and we wouldn't have made it this far without them. Lizze and I both lost a…

A quickie update

I fell a bit behind today and wasn't able to get much writing done. We had a relatively quiet day because the boys are still under the weather and Elliott is currently running a fever. Emmett seems to be doing better but is not back to himself just yet. Gavin is physically doing good. His IVIG infusion on Friday completed without any issues. It's been a little while since he's had a flawless infusion. He was happy with that, and we were grateful that he didn't have to go through anything more than was necessary. Lizze and I had a pretty decent day. I was able to go walking but cut it short at the 2-mile mark because Ruby was limping. I carried her back to the car, and we're…

A gentle reminder about Autism Awareness

Okay, folks, it's Autism Awareness Month, and there are a million ways to celebrate. Everyone is different, and raising awareness can take many forms. I've been very vocal about my feelings about this over the years. I feel it's so important that we focus on the people and less on the large organizations during the only time of year when people are paying closer attention. The truth is, you can raise awareness is countless ways. I'm a huge fan of sharing personal experience because it's a great way to help people form a more emotional connection and that helps them better relate. Some people screw in blue light bulbs, and that's okay too. Some people like to more subtly raise awareness year-round with things like Autism Awareness ribbons, magnets and…

My kids witnessed yet another hostage crisis yesterday

My wife and I have known for a long time, that we need to move out of our neighborhood. There are people in our neighborhood that we absolutely love and would miss, but it's just not safe. A quick recap of just some of the significant events that have happened in front of us in recent years. I was almost rundown, in front of my family by a car fleeing the scene of a drive-by shooting. I was getting out of our car when we heard the shots. Next thing I know, a car is speeding towards me, swirving to put me in its path. I saw the windows roll down and I thought I was going to die. I managed to get out of the way and away from…

Time off for good behavior

If the boys are feeling better tomorrow, Lizze and I will get a desperately needed break. It's been nonstop since last Friday, neither one of us have been sleeping well, and we need to unplug ASAP. Assuming we get time off for good behavior, we probably won't do anything particularly exciting. Funds are tight, and Lizze hasn't been feeling well, so the likelihood that we'll actually get out of the house is not high. Maybe I'll grab some takeout or something simple like that. Lizze and I have never really been able to do many of the things that couples do for fun. Either we don't have the money, time or even the energy. It kind of sucks and I'm really trying to improve our situation, so we are afforded…

Today we follow-up with Gavin’s doctor

Elliott and Emmett are both home from school due to illness. Thankfully, there's no school tomorrow so they will have the weekend to recover. In just a little while, I'll take Gavin to his doctor's appointment at Akron Children's. This is a follow-up from hospitalization this past weekend. I'm not expecting anything crazy to come from this and I'm looking forward to starting the long weekend...
