Finding something positive in the remote learning chaos

There are a million reasons why this school year is a nightmare for so many students and families. Parents are struggling to find balance and that included me. I don't see how kids are going to receive the quality education they both need and deserve. That being said, remote and distance learning are necessary evils, for lack of a better term. COVID19 is very dangerous and we're taking this on in order to keep our kids safe, while protecting our teachers and school staff. I get why everyone is frustrated because I'm frustrated, as are my kids. I understand the sacrifice that many parents have to make in order for this to even have a chance of working. My thoughts / Today's Victory

I’m really proud of what we accomplished today, even if others don’t get it

I've not talked about this much but I've started working out again. While I really, really want a treadmill, I'm making do with some free weights and a set of BowFlex kettlebells. There are some serious cardio exercises that can be done with kettlebells. Anyway, I was feeling pretty good today and so I suggested we go to our favorite outdoor location, Quail Hollow. We didn't have a whole lot of time because the boys had therapy but we got in a short hike. Elliott's eyes kill me here. He was goofing around and that's a positive thing. We kicked off our first full week of school

We just kicked off our first full week of school. As I've stated previously, we've chosen the remote learning model for a number of reasons. Today was largely a success because everyone got into their respective classes and did well. The boys seem to really be enjoying this experience better and I'm so happy with that. They love the face time with their teachers and friends. That's very positive and frankly, a huge relief. In other news. I've been thinking and I spoke with the kids today. Rebuilding my podcast studio has inspired me to make changes throughout the house, one room at a time. This has inspired me to work on the rest of the house It's important to me that we make the best of our current situation.…

Gavin / My thoughts

Okay, that’s a little over the top

The boys and I have been keeping things pretty low key today. One of the reasons for that is that Gavin's behaviors are way over the top. By over the top, I mean exaggerated. He's finding everything hilarious and is very loud and excitable. This is actually common with autistic kids but it's not super common for Gavin in particular. To be clear, he's not misbehaving in any way. He's just being a bit annoying to everyone around him. LOL That being said, it's still cool to see him in such a good mood. It was actually a decent day

We had a pretty decent day. I received my replacement podcast equipment. I use a Rodecaster Pro and the other day, the boys and I were interviewed for an upcoming TV segment. I had to plug in headphones for everyone. I've not used them all before and one of them was broken. I was able to get this replaced but I was also shutdown until it arrived. It showed up today, so that was cool. We had a quiet day for the most part and that's okay. We did end up going hiking for a little while and there was a bit of excitement as we tried to leave the house. We were able to eventually get away and went for a nice little hike. This week just became more stressful

This week has gotten insanely crazy. The last 2 days have been incredibly stressful but not for any reason you'd ever suspect. I was letting the dog out last night and I found a subpoena taped to my font door. I have been subpoenaed to be a State's witness in a very serious trial. I was completely caught off guard and I was required to be in the courthouse in standby for at least a week waiting to testify. This took place shortly before Lizze left last year and I think I talked about it then. Anyway, I'm not directly involved at all. I have to be 3 places at once

The boys have school today and I have four meetings before mid-afternoon. I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to pull all of this off just yet but I'm hoping for cooperation. I fully expect to be inturrupted but I'm not sure what else I can do. I have to be in three places at once. Emmett got into his first two classes but is having issues getting into his next two classes. I'm working with the school to trouble shoot and I know it's going to require my attention while I'm scheduled to do something else. While I was scrambling to help Emmett, Elliott decided to close his eyes between classes and I didn't know that. By the time I figured that out, he'd missed 15 minutes of his…

A quick update on remote learning and working from home

I was thinking this would be our first full week back at their old school but that won't be until next week due to the holiday. Elliott went back today and Emmett is back tomorrow. I think I already shared that Elliott goes to school Monday - Thursday. Emmett goes Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It's already been a more positive experience than the previous online setup. Elliott is getting much more interaction with his teachers and friends. Emmett's in the same boat. I've overheard Elliott being very involved in class and talking with everyone, much the same way he would if he was physically present. Emmett has been working on assignments on his off days and seems to be doing quite well. Remote learning means you can sometimes do your…
