The kids are sick again

It's been a l-o-n-g night. The boys didn't sleep much and therefore, neither did I. Elliott has started with an upper respiratory thing with is complicated by his asthma. Interesting fact. Elliott was born premature, suffer bilateral pneumothorax and was diagnosed with premature lung disease. He spent around 10 days in the NICU and we were told that the lung disease would have no impact on him as he got older. Turns out, at least in Elliott's case, that's not true. His allergist/immunologist said that it's probably why his more prone to upper airway infections. Elliott will go through periods of time where he just can't seem to shake there's upper airway infections. They last forever and seem to keep coming back. This is especially true when he's under a…

I’m trying very hard to keep my kids distracted

I've gotten out the habit of writing again. I'm struggling a bit but I'm surviving and determined to get righted. Yesterday the boys had a pleasant visit with their mom and grandparents. They were only gone for a few hours but the quality of those hours is what matters. I used the time to go walking and OMG did that feel good. Elliott is still struggling with many things related to the divorce and it's really hard to see him going through this. I'm powerless to help with some of this stuff because it's outside of what I have control over. It's impacting many aspects of his life and even his teachers are very concerned. That weighs heavy on me and it's hard to focus on much else when your…

Super excited about today

Both boys were home from school this morning. Neither were feeling well and there is something going around the school. Thankfully, as the morning went on, they felt better and were able to go in around 10am. I think stress is playing a large role here. Assuming they make it the rest of the day and they're still feeling good, which I suspect they will, we're going to be going to a private tour of this brand new indoor amusement park tonight. We were invited to come check out Urban Air Adventure Park before it's open to the public. I'm really excited about this because it's a cool experience for the kids and we're getting invited to more and more events like this. We have a big one coming up…

New Jersey has the highest rate of children with autism in the United States, and the largest population of children on the spectrum live in Essex County. LifeTown is designed to provide desperately needed services for those in the special needs community, as well as help bridge the gaps with the general public. This is an absolutely amazing facility and what's happening in Livingston, New Jersey needs to happen all over this country. #Depression sucks: I’m feeling alone right now and not particularly good about myself

I'm feeling completely overwhelmed today. Emmett is sick and Gavin has started cursing every time he gets frustrated. It's becoming an issue because he already has no filter. Everytime he says something inappropriate, Elliott and Emmett jump all over it. They aren't fans of cursing and I don't generally use that language in front of them. I've got to tighten the reigns on what he's watching again. I haven't been able to walk in days and that's really frustrating for me. There are things I can do around the house but I don't get the same emotional benefits from that. The boys and I were invited to a private tour of the new Urban Air Aventure Park in Akron this Friday. It's a media thing and they'd like us to…

Just another day in paradise

Emmett's not doing so well this morning. He woke up about 2am not feeling well and nothing has improved for him since then. It was a long night, leaving me exhausted. Elliott didn't sleep well either but he's managed to get to school. I'm really proud of him for pushing through. Emmett is currently laying down, trying to sleep but can't get comfortable. I'm trying to stay awake because I need to get things done today and I want to make sure Emmett's okay. I suppose it's just another day paradise...
