Here’s an update

I wanted to take a few minutes and deliver a general update on my personal wellbeing. There's two things that are going on and I'm seeing my doctor in the morning for both. First and foremost, I'm meeting with my doctor to discuss withdrawaling from Paxil and Wellbutrin. I want to do so in a slow deliberate manner in order to give my body time to adjust. Secondly, I need her to look at my back. This is gross but I mentioned last week that the cyst on my back had burst, which is normal. I've never dealt with anything like that before so it had me pretty freaked out. Lizze has done an amazing job of helping me care for it. I can't reach the middle of my back…

Someone’s not feeling good

Poor Mr. Emmett woke up this morning not feeling well. It's about 5:30 AM and I've moved to the living room with my littlest minion. Part of me suspects he's simply hungry because he didn't eat much yesterday. For now, I'm gonna make him something simple to eat and see if that helps. It's an early start to the day but I'm feeling pretty good. I'll probably sneak a nap when Lizze wakes up but for now, Emmett and I are going to watch the new season of All Hail King Julian on Netflix. Hopefully, Emmett will feel better as the morning moves forward.

When doing the right thing breaks your heart and feels like shit

I haven't written much since Thursday and there's a good reason for that. I had a truly horrible experience and it really knocked me for a loop. It was one of those times where doing the right thing made me feel like a monster. 😔 This past Thursday, Elliott had an appointment with his pediatrician. This was a follow-up in regards to him having recently begun taking Prozac for anxiety. The day began with the very first snow day of the year and we all had a great morning. I noticed that Elliott's cheeks were red and I decided to check his temperature. He was indeed running a low-grade fever and I was thinking it would be a good idea to get his blood work done while we were there.…

A desperately needed break

Lizze and I have the night off for the first time in forever. The boys are at Lizze's parents until noon Saturday and we're pretty frigging grateful. ☺ We didn't really do a whole lot of exciting things but we visited my grandmother for a bit, ran a few errands and grabbed dinner. After dinner, we watch the movie Dark Tower. Lizze hadn't seen it yet and I thought it was worth a second viewing. We finished the evening off with some more Supernatural and called it an early night. We're both physically and emotionally exhausted. It's been about four months since we've had a night to ourselves and we desperately needed it. I fully intend on sleeping in till Maggie needs out in the morning and I already told…

Tons of awesome pics from this week’s snowday

The boys got a relatively rare chance to play outside in the snow. Normally we avoid being outside in the yard due to safety concerns associated with our neighborhood. It's been pretty quiet lately and Lizze and I were right there with them the whole time. It was really awesome to see them playing and having fun. Everyone had a good time and they spent about 20 minutes throwing snow balls, making snow angels and being kids. 💜 [foogallery id="68176"]

Review: The Guardian Helmet for #Seizures, #Autism and #Epilepsy

This review is sponsored by Guardian Helmets. They were kind enough to send over a Guardian Helmet for me to check out, write about, and hopefully raise some awareness. ☺ The purpose of this post is to bring a product to your attention that may be of benefit to some of my readers. This was a bit more difficult to review because this isn't something that my kids require. As a result, I've decided to simply present you with the information, give my thoughts on the build quality, discuss the potential use scenarios and leave it up to you, as to whether or not it's something that will benefit your family. Guardian Helmets produces a protective helmet for kids and adults that helps protect them from traumatic brain injury. There…

My little snow angel

Just as the school predicted and prepared us for, it's a snowday. Mr. Emmett decided that he wanted to head outside and sweep the snow off the porch. We have to use a push broom at the moment cause our snow shovel was stolen again.. Anyway, I only let him out for a few minutes because I don't want him in the snow wearing crocs and no socks. He did a really good job and wants to do more later on today. We'll have to see about that. Once I brought him in the house, I made him some hot chocolate with marshmallows and we snuggled on the couch, watching the new season of All Hail King Julian.... ☺

Holy Shit!! He’s kinda wearing shoes

When it comes to being an Autism parent, it's all about the little victories. Don't get me wrong, we get some big victories as well and this is a prime example of one. ☺ If you know our story, you probably know that Emmett seriously struggles with shoes and socks. In fact, it's so bad he hasn't worn shoes in almost two years now. He will however, wear crocs but only certain ones and it's really hard to find those. Anyway, he's been wearing the second pair for quite awhile now and they were too small for him. He refused to wear anything else and it was a battle we decided not to pick because it would have only made things worse. Lizze's Mom bought him a new pair of…
