The boys and I ran some errands

Lizze is out with her Mom and the boys and I took care of a Christmas return we needed to do.  I'm super impressed because Emmett finally wore his crocs, even though he didn't have any clean socks. He didn't like it and it took some effort and patience but we pulled it off. We ran out to Best Buy to make the return and used the gift card to expand the automation of our home. We were able to get another Echo Dot for the boys room and they are super excited. Emmett has been asking her questions all afternoon. :) Gavin doesn't have any interest in one, which worked out well because they only actually had one left and we were lucky to find that. Fit4autism: I begin my weight-loss journey 

Halfway through the day, I'm doing pretty awesome. I've already reached some of my healthier living goals for today. I've already exceeded my minimum goal of 60 minutes of activity and taken in 44oz of my 64oz of daily water. I've almost reached my bare minimum step goal of 6,000 steps for the day. Hitting 10,000 shouldn't be a problem. A few minutes ago, I finished up my first of two, thirty minute sessions on the treadmill. The second one will probably occur after dinner. Food is sorta scarce right now cause I don't get paid until tomorrow, at which point I'll hit the grocery store and pick up the list of groceries Alexa has kindly helped me put together. You can find my midday stats below.

It’s the little things

I've been doing the special needs parenting thing long enough to lose all my hair and turn my beard white.  😁 I've also been doing this long enough that I've learned to appreciate the little things in life.  Today I'm appreciating the shit out of Walgreens because they have their toilet paper on sale.  As I read back through this I realized I made an unintended pun but it's pretty funny so I'm leaving it in..  ☺

The boys have been challenging this morning 

Alexa woke me up at 8am this morning (I told you I'm hooked on home automation) and that left us with about thirty minutes to get ready. At 9am, Lizze had an appointment and the boys and I were taking her there.  Elliott and Emmett have been super challenging so far but I'm hoping to work off some of their energy in the giant playroom under Dr. Pattie's office, while we wait for Lizze to finish her appointment.  There's nothing really on the schedule for today, aside from Lizze spending some time with her Mom this afternoon.  I happen to think that's a great idea and I'm more than happy to chill with the kids while she's out.  It's important that we both take time to ourselves and that's exactly…

Emmett's having such a very hard time right now 😕 It's so easy to forget that just because a child with Autism can speak, doesn't mean they have the ability to express themselves. Emmett has a very, very advanced vocabulary but very, very limited expressive language skills. On days like today where it feels like we're living from one meltdown to the next, I'm reminded of this challenge. My sweet Emmett is not gifted in the ways of expressing his feelings or frustrations with words and indoor voices. Asking him what's wrong will not provide me with anything that can help me better understand what's bothering him. I instead have to follow the breadcrumb trail of behavioral changes and try and decode them.
