Tuesday is family therapy night for this family Every Tuesday night we have family therapy. It's more for the kids, but it's evolved into more of a family therapy session. We work with the same doctor we've worked with for over a decade, and we all look forward to this every week. When you're a special needs family, you cannot put a price on this kind of support. It's good for the boys and it helps Lizze and I ensure that we're doing what's best for our three kids with Autism. It's awesome to have a sounding board for when we don't know what to do.. Do you have a therapist for your family or your kids, that you couldn't imagine life without?

The boys made it to school a few minutes early today. It was nice watching them walk into the building, know that there's only four days left of school. As challenging as the summer will likely be, neither one of the boys will be stressed out over school. They both love school but at the same time, it's a huge source of stress for them. When it comes to summer break, are you excited, nervous, worried, or something else??

Gavin’s having health issues tonight

You may recall that Gavin sorta refused his IVIG infusion this morning, because he had a mission to go on first (see Why I'm worried about Gavin today). We were simply going to do his infusion tonight, because it wasn't a huge deal. It was the fact he wanted to put it off, and the reasons why he wanted to put it off, that concerned me.  After dinner, he was getting ready to get his supplies together, and he got hit with some major reflux. It put him down for an hour or so because he wasn't feeling well.  I decided that we would put his infusion off until the morning, because he's already struggling and the infusion is pretty rough on his body.  Once the reflux subsided, he was hit…

While we were at the park today, I spent some time taking pictures of the many flowers that are living there. The last time we were there, we saw an elderly couple working in the garden, and they did an amazing job. I wish my yard looked even a tiny fraction of how good this huge garden does. I'm feeling motived to work in the yard this summer, and make things look as nice as they possibly can. We're somewhat limited because of funding and where we live, but I'm all about making the best of what we have to work with...

Things I do to manage my #Autism Parenting Stress

One of the most important things an Autism parent can do is take care of themselves. I wanted to share one of the things I do in order to better manage my stress. While we were at the park today, I spent some time taking pictures of the many flowers that are living there. Taking pictures relaxes me and helps me to put things into perspective. Took the family to the park today. The boys didn't want to go because they were playing in their room, but as the King of this castle, I decided we needed to get outside for a little bit. The boys went Pokémon hunting, while Gavin explored. While the kids used their tablets, they were outside getting exercise, and that's what matters at the end of the day.  Lizze and I took lots of pictures, which is something we really like to do.  This is a few of the best from today...

Why I’m worried about Gavin today

It started out like a typical Monday morning. It wasn't anything amazingly awesome, or horrifically terrible. The boys were tough to get moving but we got to school on time.  After dropping the boys off at school, I told Gavin to get his infusion supplies together. Every Monday and Friday morning, Gavin receives his IVIG infusion to treat his severely compromised immune system.  Typically, Gavin's very anxious to get this done because he he feels better once it's done.  Today however, Gavin essentially refused his IVIG infusion because he had a mission to go on, and he didn't want to go into battle with needles in his stomach. I can understand that, but he's never done that before.  I haven't yet learned the details of this particular mission or how…

Watch Emmett’s Martial Arts Promotion in less than 1 minute

Last Friday, both Elliott and Emmett had Martial Arts Promotion at school. I've got pictures and video of both. The boys did awesome, and we couldn't be any prouder of them.  The video below, summarizes Emmett's promotion. Elliott will have his own post as well.  Mr. Emmett was promoted to yellow belt, and demonstrated three katas in front of everyone. He was the only one to do this. Please take a second and view the video below. It's less than one minute long, Family friendly and will nicely summarize the promotion... ☺  https://youtu.be/8F1FC_Gk5mc
