So Proud

I want to take a second and share how proud of Elliott I am right now. I'm always proud of my kids but sometimes they even surprise me and I find myself even more deeply impressed. Today is one such day.. ☺ On the way home from school today, Elliott was upset because he was given homework over the weekend. The whole class was given homework, not just Elliott, but he's still upset. Anyway, without having to be asked, bribed, chased after, fought or otherwise forced, he came home, and began his homework. I'm not sure I've ever seen this from him. I'm absolutely impressed and frankly, quite relieved. I was dreading the homework battle this weekend and now I don't have to worry about it.. ☺ Elliott, I'm super…

Today’s Victory: Pants

I want to take a second to remind everyone to celebrate the victories. As Autism and Special Needs Parents, we're all to aware that even the smallest step forward still means forward movement. Focus on those victories, even on the really bad days because it helps to maintain perspective. That being said, I want to share a victory we celebrated yesterday and again today. It may not seem like a big deal to the uninitiated but trust me when I say, this is huge. For the first time in as long as I can remember, Emmett has worn a different pair of pants to school. This has been a nightmare and we have not been able to find a pair of pants that he will wear to school, other than…

Today’s MASSIVELY AWESOME Victory

Today marked the third time in a row that Gavin has done his own IVIG Infusion, start to finish. I can't tell you how proud of him I am. When I look back 5 or 6 years, I remember how much he struggled with needles. It would literally take half a dozen people to draw his blood. The experience was awful for all of us but especially for Gavin. Now he goes in and has his bloodwork done on his own while I wait in the car. The last major obstacle he needed to overcome was starting his own IVIG Infusion and that required placing the needles into his belly. He's wanted nothing to do with that until recently. For the third time in a row, Gavin has done it…

Today’s Victory: They tried new food tonight but did they like it

I picked the boys up from school this afternoon and both had a good day. I didn't hear any complaints about anything and I'm happy with that. ☺ On the way home, we stopped at Little Ceasars to pick up stuff for their lunches tomorrow but when we arrived, they were closed for remodeling. I don't know if something happened or if it was just a remodeling but either way, I wasn't able to get the kids the only things they'll eat in their lunches. Emmett has only been eating Little Ceasars Crazy Bread and Elliott is still only eating their pizza in their school lunches. The car still needs fixed and I didn't want to drive much farther because of it. I ended up ordering East of Chicago and…

This is a huge victory for us

This will be super short and sweet, because I'm going to bed. For the first time in a long time, both boys went to sleep tonight without any issues. Elliott's been having a rough time falling asleep and Sunday night was really bad. Tonight however, both he and Emmett fell asleep to Lizze reading Harry Potter. This is a pretty big victory, and it means that I have a good chance of getting so sleep tonight. I fully intend on taking advantage of it.

Emmett’s MAJOR victory

My parents sent Lizze and I to Outback for dinner on my birthday. It was amazing and we are so grateful for the time away. While lunch was awesome, I couldn't finish it. I brought home about 20 oz of a 24 oz ribeye steak in a take home box. Emmett has been into beef lately, but only under certain conditions. Those conditions seem to be in flux all the time but I thought I would offer him some steak and see if he'd at least try it. Over the next two days, Emmett ate every last piece of that 20 oz ribeye, all by himself. I was thrilled that he ate that because it's different than what he normally eats and that feels good to see. ☺ I wish…

Today’s Victory: Quite a few stops to fix his shoes

I took the boys to the park for another mile or so of Pokémon Go. Lizze stayed behind because of her feet. She thinks they're beginning to feel better and doesn't want to overdue it.  Considering how hot it was, how many people were at the park, and their very limited attention span, I'm really proud of the boys. Truthfully, they did a good job playing Pokémon Go and watching out for where they were going.  Of course, Emmett made quite a few stops to fix his shoes.  Even though he had to stop to fix his shoes, he still kept pushing on. He was a total trooper, and I'm super proud of him for not giving up, or getting frustrated.  The trip was an overall success, and it was…

Today’s Victory: You won’t believe what Emmett did tonight

The paycheck came today and I decided to take the family out to Cracker Barrel for dinner. We haven't been out to dinner as a family for a long time, and there's good reason for that.  We haven't had the money to do things like this for awhile. Secondly, it's fucking hard to get three kids with Autism organized, and cooperative, all at the same time.  Just getting out the door was a nightmare. I came damn close to forgetting the whole deal because I'm in an enormous amount of pain, and running short on patience. More on that later.  We finally made it to Cracker Barrel and surprise surprise, Emmett has a mini-meltdown because he can't decide what he wants. That's another reason we avoid these situations. lol Our…
