Gavin’s having health issues tonight

You may recall that Gavin sorta refused his IVIG infusion this morning, because he had a mission to go on first (see Why I'm worried about Gavin today). We were simply going to do his infusion tonight, because it wasn't a huge deal. It was the fact he wanted to put it off, and the reasons why he wanted to put it off, that concerned me.  After dinner, he was getting ready to get his supplies together, and he got hit with some major reflux. It put him down for an hour or so because he wasn't feeling well.  I decided that we would put his infusion off until the morning, because he's already struggling and the infusion is pretty rough on his body.  Once the reflux subsided, he was hit…

I took my #Autism family to the park

Took the family to the park today. The boys didn't want to go because they were playing in their room, but as the King of this castle, I decided we needed to get outside for a little bit. The boys went Pokémon hunting, while Gavin explored. While the kids used their tablets, they were outside getting exercise, and that's what matters at the end of the day.  Lizze and I took lots of pictures, which is something we really like to do.  This is a few of the best from today...

Why I’m worried about Gavin today

It started out like a typical Monday morning. It wasn't anything amazingly awesome, or horrifically terrible. The boys were tough to get moving but we got to school on time.  After dropping the boys off at school, I told Gavin to get his infusion supplies together. Every Monday and Friday morning, Gavin receives his IVIG infusion to treat his severely compromised immune system.  Typically, Gavin's very anxious to get this done because he he feels better once it's done.  Today however, Gavin essentially refused his IVIG infusion because he had a mission to go on, and he didn't want to go into battle with needles in his stomach. I can understand that, but he's never done that before.  I haven't yet learned the details of this particular mission or how…

Watch Emmett’s Martial Arts Promotion in less than 1 minute

Last Friday, both Elliott and Emmett had Martial Arts Promotion at school. I've got pictures and video of both. The boys did awesome, and we couldn't be any prouder of them.  The video below, summarizes Emmett's promotion. Elliott will have his own post as well.  Mr. Emmett was promoted to yellow belt, and demonstrated three katas in front of everyone. He was the only one to do this. How we calm our ferrets so their nails can be trimmed

There's a trick to trimming a ferrets nails, and it's called distraction. We have to do with with our ferrets every two weeks or so. If we didn't, their nails get like a raptors talons and can accidentally do so damage, or cause injury. If you've followed our story, you know that we are very clearly not made of money. Things are getting better every month, but it's still a struggle sometimes. Regardless of the financial challenges, I've decided to make a concerted effort to spend more one on one time with each of my kids. On May 16th, 2017, I took Elliott to Chuck E Cheeses for our one on one time. It's what he wanted to do and they had a pretty good deal going on.
