Desperate times… UPDATE

So I took the family to see Car's 2 today.  We have been stuck in the same room together for the past few days due to the heat.  So the movie went pretty well for awhile.  About half way through the show Emmett fell face first out of his seat and into the little knee wall and onto the floor.  He's okay but he was understandably upset for a while.  He ended up falling asleep on Lizze's lap before the movie was over. Poor Emmett,  he had a rough time but aside from the fall,  he enjoyed the part of the movie he actually saw.  Overall,  a very positive experience. - Lost and Tired Post by Wordpress for Android via Nexus S 4G with out the use of proper editing…

Sensory Interference

What is Sensory Interference? I have spoken about the complications associated with sensory processing issues before...several times actually.  I wanted to take it a step further today, if you don't mind. I have recently been dubbing the sensory issues, Emmett in particular, has been experiencing lately, as sensory interference. I say sensory interference because these issues are, more often now, actually interfering with his life and preventing him doing things. The other morning for example, Emmett was supposed to have speech therapy, which he desperately needs and wanted to go to. However, Emmett was unable to tolerate his clothes again. I tried everything I could think of to help him.  I tried brushing and deep pressure but nothing helped. The really heart breaking part is that he wanted to go so badly that he was asking…

Desperate times…….

For the past few days we have all been living in top of each other.  All of our time is basically spent in the living room in order to a avoid the extreme temperatures.  As you can imagine,  everyone has had all they can take of each other.  This morning started out pretty rough and was headed down a road to disaster.  I decided to redirect us back on the right path.  My mom called last night and wanted to hang out with Gavin for a bit today.  So I decided to seize the moment and take the other 2, along with Lizze,  to a movie.  I figured we could get the kids out of the heat for a little while.  Traditionally,  movies haven't worked out well but as the…

Beating the heat

It's been close to 100f the past few days.  Our 2nd floor is unbearable due to the heat.  We have all been camping out downstairs with our kind of working window air conditioner. The boys don't do well in this heat and humidity. So we just have to do whatever we can to make it more bearable for them. - Lost and Tired Post by Wordpress for Android via Nexus S 4G with out the use of proper editing tools and auto-correct. Emmett and his “ABC’s”

I thought this was really cool and so I thought I would share this with you. Emmett, as you are probably aware, is significantly developmentally delayed with a severe language and speech delay as well. The other day while we were are Akron children's hospital, Emmett started naming the letters on this sign. I was is shock at first. This video shows the 2nd time he was doing this and it wasn't nearly as good as the 1st time but he is naming his letters and he just turned 3 a few weeks ago. I think this has alot to do with him using his Android4Autism device and the learning apps installed on it. Just for fun today, I loaded up a blank Word document onto the TV and started…

Childhood disintegrative disorder: update 7/21/2011

Childhood disintegrative disorder: The Pending Eval   Our journey down the road to a childhood disintegrative disorder evaluation began this afternoon. After making several phone calls to three different hospitals, I found a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic that deals with this rare condition. I ended up speaking to a nurse and she actually spoke with the doctor himself about Gavin while I was on hold.  After a few minutes she came back on the line and said that he would see Gavin on Monday...this coming Monday. I have mixed feelings about them getting us in so quickly. It's the freakin' Cleveland Clinic, one of the best hospitals in the world, let alone the United States. I was expecting an appointment at least a few weeks out not within 4 days. This hospital…

Storm damage from the other night

With everything we had going on yesterday I hadn't noticed the storm damage until this morning. The roof leaked again, and only this time it was enough to collapse a large section of the sofit in my old office (now used for storage) . The ceiling is getting worse and the sofit has definitely seen better days. Not sure how or when I'll get to this repair, especially since I can't figure out where it's coming from. The roof is only 2 years old so this is especially frustrating. If I get this fixed I would love to reclaim my office. Until next time.... ;-) - Lost and Tired Post by Wordpress for Android via Nexus S 4G with out the use of proper editing tools and auto-correct. Please Vote…
