We should get our van back today

I spoke with Downtown Ford again yesterday.  They were installing the remote start and fixing the door panels. We should be getting our van back sometime this afternoon. Hopefully,  this will address all the issues we have been having. I don't like the idea of making payments on a van that isn't working. I don't like the idea of making payments,  period. I'll let you all know how it goes when I get the word to come pick it up. **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store

#Autism: Saying goodbye to a family pet

We made the decision to find Toothless,  Emmett's and Elliott's bearded dragon,  a new home. While this decision was a difficult one,  it was the right thing to do. Toothless wasn't getting the attention he deserved or needed for that matter.  We will remember him fondly and wish him the very best. He went to a really cool,  private pet store.  They have all kinds or really cool animals and will live in the store with several other bearded dragons.  I gave them everything we had for him so he still has his tank and everything else he was used to. The boys have mixed feelings about it.  Elliott has spent the last day,  trying not to cry,  as he put it. I explained that sometimes when we love someone…

A Special Needs Review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus

The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus     Samsung, is the first of hopefully many tech companies, to step up to the plate and allow me to review their products from the unique perspective of a special needs parent, who just happens to be a hardcore techy. Not only do I understand the tech but also how it can be incorporated into the lives of the special needs family to assist a child with Autism in learning, communication and even social skills.  The piece of tech I'll be reviewing today is the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, by Samsung. This is a 7" tablet powered by android OS version 3.2 Honeycomb. For those of you with hardcore techy blood pumping through your veins, I have all the specs at the bottom of…

A disturbance in the force

In the advent of Gavin not medically stable enough to finish out the school year a few things have changed and a few problems have emerged. The most obvious thing that has changed is that Gavin is home everyday. The school hasn't finished setting up the visiting tutor just yet.  In light of the shift in the amount of time that Gavin is now home,  some problems have developed. For starters,  Gavin being home has completely disrupted Emmett’s schedule and shifted the dynamic. The routine that we struggled so hard to get Emmett onto,  has now been thrown out the window because the routine didn't involve Gavin being home during the day. Emmett's not adjusting very well. The screaming and aggression have significantly increased and Lizze typically gets assaulted at…

Today’s #Autism Discussion: 05/10/2012

Sticking with a positive theme today, I would like to hear about your child's best quality.  Something you truly admire and would like to share with the rest of the class.  :-) There's nothing wrong with bragging about our kids...  :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store

Van drama: Did it get fixed?

I spoke with Downtown Ford on  Wednesday morning. They informed me that the transmission has been rebuilt and was indeed part of the recall.  They wanted to address the electrical issues that were a result of the remote start before turning the van back over to me. They have decided to replace the after market remote start with a Ford, OEM remote start. Apparently these are easy to come by, but they have tracked a few down and are trying to get their hands on one. Hopefully this will give us the feature back that we need and eliminate the nightmarish and bizarre,  electrical issues that have plagued us since we bought it a few months ago. Now we just wait for the call and go pick it up. Hopefully,…

#Autism: Everyday Lessons (05/10/2012)

I wanted to share another great example of using an everyday activity as a means of teaching a life lesson. I took Elliott to the grocery store with me and let him help me with every aspect of the shopping trip. This type of experience will help him build the real life skills he'll need to be able to do his own grocery shopping as he gets older.  This helps him learn to make wise food choices and also how to maintain a budget. He is learning to use the self check out and even bag the groceries. I love these little lessons.  :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store

Gavin’s Lego Creation: 05/10/2012

This is Gavin's latest and greatest,  Lego creation.  I'm pretty sure I heard him mention something today about this being a modification of his previous jumbo jet. Either way,  this is significantly more intricate and he's quite proud of it,  as am I.  :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store
