Some back story

Well,  my back is officially out of commission.  I haven't been able to get away and walk for a very long time now. The only thing keeping the pain at bay was the walking.  The back story For those that don't know the back story - ha ha,  get it,  backstory- here's the dime store version. Back in August of 2001, I was finishing up paramedic school. I was doing ride time with one of the local departments.  One afternoon we went on a run.  The call was for a young woman,  28 weeks pregnant.  She had started to hemorage. I was at the foot of the cott as we were carry it down a very steep staircase. At one point I had to lift the cott up above my…

Please say a prayer for my mother

As I mentioned earlier today,  my mother was taken to the hospital this morning and has since been admitted.  She is currently in the cardiac unit and undergoing testing. She was walking this morning and had what seemed like an asthma attack.  She apparently had another episode later on and her breathing was labored.  She was taken to the ER and is getting a full cardiac work up.  She may be home sometime tomorrow night.  I would really appreciate your thoughts and prayers for her.  Hopefully,  this proves to be nothing serious or at the very least,  treatable. Thanks so much. **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store Posted from WordPress for…

#Autism: Screaming

Emmett John has woken up from his nap and is in a really bad mood.  Elliott is not allowed to talk,  if he does Emmett just screams.  We have told Emmett at Elliott is allowed to talk but it's not making a difference. Thankfully,  Elliott isn't in a very talkative mood or things would be worse. Gavin is still sleeping so I'm going to have to wake him up soon. He would sleep all day if we didn't intervene and I mean that literally. The screaming has got to stop because it's very slowly eroding away what's left of my sanity. I can't imagine how Lizze feels with her migraine.  :-( As long as everyone is quite,  Emmett is calm.  So, my goal is keep the house as calm and…

A Lost and Tired family update

Well today has already been crazy.  I had a ton of running around to do and very limited gas.  However,  I managed to pull everything off and made it home safe and sound. Lizze and the boys are all napping and I have finally got a chance to sit down and write. Earlier this morning,  my mother was taken to the emergency room for breathing problems.  She had just finished a 4.25 mile walk in just over an hour.  Apparently,  she had what seemed to be an asthma attack.  I've known her for 33 years and didn't know she had asthma. I still waiting for an update but I spoke with her on the phone and she was doing well. We kept Elliott home front school because he wasn't feeling…

Yesterday’s absence

As you may or may not have noticed,  I was mostly absent from the blog yesterday.  There's a really good reason for that.  Basically,  I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed lately.  We have been met with some new challenges over the last week,  and while I won't go into the details,  I'll say that I'm very preoccupied at the moment trying to figure some things out.  I just didn't have the energy to write much yesterday but that's okay. To add to the stress,  Emmett is in the worst flare up to date.  It's not so much the fever as it is the mouth sores. They are simply horrible. I'm laying next to him right now because he's having a rough time sleeping tonight. Hopefully,  he'll be feeling better Very soon because…

Patience

Patience is a word used to describe how long one can cope with a certain situation. Wikipedia defines patience as: Patience (or forbearing) is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without acting on annoyance/anger in a negative way; or exhibiting forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties. Patience is the level of endurance one can take before negativity. It is also used to refer to the character trait of being steadfast As a special needs parent I use the word patience many, many times a day. I'm always asking God for more patience because I seem to spend my allotted amount fairly quickly. It's not like I have an abundance of patience just burning a hole in my…

Nothing to do

For the first time,  in a very long time,  we have nothing on the schedule for today. All I have to do is pick up Elliott from school and that's it. I don't know what to do today.  We never have nothing to do. Maybe I can play catch up and get some writing done.  Perhaps some long overdue housework. Although,  to be honest,  sleep sound really good but far less productive. What do you folks do when you find yourself with nothing to do?  **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store Posted from WordPress for Android

#Autism: Having the “Talk” with your special needs child

Last night,  while at Wednesday night therapy with the boys,  we had one of the most awkward conversations with Gavin.  Dr.  Pattie wanted to address Gavin’s sexual aggression once again.  Unfortunately,  that involved the boys have a penis and girls have a vagina talk. This became necessary after an incident that occurred while Gavin was playing with Elliott during therapy last night. I have to commend Dr.  Pattie because she did a really good job confronting him on these issues.  In a unfortunate way,  it was good that she witnessed Gavin's behavior last night because she was able to address it on the spot,  instead of a week later. It was however,  one of the most awkward conversations I think I have ever had with anyone.  I don't know who…
