#Autism and Anxiety

Its been awhile since I have updated you on Elliott's current whereabouts in the land of anxiety.  To put things bluntly,  he's lost in the the land of anxiety. This poor kid is in absolute need of constant reassurance.  Right now he has 2 settings,  sleeping and whining/crying. He panics all the time over things that shouldn't bother him nearly that much.  It doesn't help when Emmett is constantly bullying him. He doesn't always have to physically hit Elliott to upset him.  Emmett likes to impede Elliott's movements.  For example,  if Elliott's trying to leave a room,  Emmett will block the doorway and not let him pass.  This will send Elliott into complete panic. Then of course,  we have Gavin and his meltdowns.  They certainly aren't helping things any. We…

Emmett’s birthday wish

Emmett John will be turning 4 years old this coming week.  He has one birthday wish and I thought it was a pretty amazing.  My little Emmett John doesn't want a toy or a game for his 3DS. He doesn't want money or candy either. My sweet little Emmett John wants to touch a cloud.  That's all he wants. I don't really even know what to say to that.  To me,  I think that's pretty profound and quite amazing that he has decided something like that.  Hopefully,  the morning of the 26th will bring with it fog. That way I can grant him his birthday wish.... **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Community Autism Support Forum Posted from WordPress for Android

The latest house fire in the Lost and Tired neighborhood

Earlier this week I wrote about another house fire in our neighborhood. There has been a increasing number of house fires over the past year or so. We've had more than our share within a few houses of Lost and Tired HQ. I don't believe anyone was hurt in this latest blaze as the house was likely abandoned. I also don't know if it was arson or not, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was. For those of you that have never witnessed a house fire, count yourself lucky. I shot a little bit of the action and promised I would share it. I've been preoccupied this week and haven't gotten to it until now. Canton City Fire needs to be commended for their fast response and the speed with…

#Autism and Obsessions

I know it's quite common for an ASD child to become focused on one subject to the point of obsession. We deal with that all the time in the Lost and Tired household. My kids get very focused on individual things. Lego's, Matchbox Cars, Pokemon and even food,  are all things my kids either have in the past or are currently now,  obsessing over. I use the word obsess because these things actually interfere with everyday life. Most of these things are okay but there is one that I personally struggle with and that's the obsession with food. Gavin has a long standing obsession with food. He could literally talk about food nonstop and he often does. This obsession doesn't have anything at all to do both cooking or preparing…

#Autism, Seizures and Meltdowns – OH MY

Today is shaping up to be quite challenging.  Gavin is being extra manipulative today and we have already had to pull his aside at least 2 or 3 times.  Each time he was pulled aside he had a minor,  self-injurious meltdown. Thankfully, these were relatively minor in comparison to his usual one but they still added to the stress in the house. Gavin is also experiencing more break through seizures.  These are all seemingly adsent seizures.  This means that he basically goes on pause for a few seconds up to 20 or 30 seconds. It's very difficult to tell what's what because Gavin tends to stare off at things anyway. The only reason we have noticed this is that he is having accidents at night and is experiencing missing time.…
