My back is out

I woke up this morning and I can barely stand up.  My back has gone out and I'm in so much pain I'm sick to my stomach. I walked last night and perhaps that's what happened. All I know is I hope to God this goes way fast because I can't take this. **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III. #Autism and Nightmares

Elliott woke up about 2am and couldn't go back to sleep. He had a nightmare and then saw monsters in the ceiling. Needless to say,  I haven't had much sleep. In my experience,  kids on the autism spectrum have a more difficult time going back to sleep after a nightmare,  but that could also just be my kids. I'm so friggin tired.... **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III. Major meltdowns return

Gavin had a second,  humongous meltdown last night. It lasted about an hour and was quite violent. For the first time,  Gavin in went after me.  He kicked his shoes and just missed me. Gavin had been playing with Elliott and Emmett and was creeping them out.  The boys were getting upset and asking him to stop and he wouldn't.  Lizze had been watching and intervened as soon as it was apparent that Gavin wouldn't stop. The subsequent meltdown was so loud,  I couldn't believe that no one called the police. I honestly don't know how we dodged the bullet on that one. His meltdowns are getting worse and they are affecting the other boys. I have a post explaining more details about just how the boys are being affected…

One step closer to the Cleveland Clinic

I was able to get a hold of the Cleveland Clinic today on Lizze's behalf. As of July 1st, they are supposed to except our insurance.  This means that I can finally get her a second opinion and maybe,  just maybe put an end to the 6 month old migraine. This has obviously been an ongoing issue and we have been trying to find her relief from this unending pain. I expect to hear back from the Cleveland Clinics financial counselor sometime on Tuesday to finalize the insurance information and schedule an appointment for as soon as possible. Hopefully everything goes according to plan and we get a next day appointment. Lizze is so bad at this point that she is having a hard time eating because everytime she does, …

#Autism does not mean less of a person

We had to run some errands this afternoon.  As we were pulling off the freeway and stopped at a red light waiting to turn, Elliott noticed something. Elliott noticed that there was a man standing on the corner holding a sign.  The sign said,  anything helps.  Elliott peppered me with questions as to what that meant and I explained that some people have much less than we do.  Elliott was puzzled by this and asked me how it was possible to have less than we did. That kinda stung a little bit,  but he didn't mean it that way. I explained that sometimes people can lose everything they have and be left without much left.  He then wanted to know what the sign meant.  I told him that this man…

#Autism and Insurance: Screw the bottom line

It was the beginning of May when I won the appeal and insurance agreed to cover speech,  OT and PT for Emmett once again. However,  here we are in July and he still hasn't been able to return. I spoke with the therapists office again this morning and they are still waiting for paperwork from the insurance company. I also spoke with the insurance company and they didn't seem to have a clue what was going on. I was told that the therapist has to call medical management,  which I'm sure has been done already as they want Emmett back as much as we do. They are still refusing to cover Elliott's OT and PT.  That just baffles me because Elliott's muscle tone is worse than both Emmett and Gavin.…

#Autism: The boy who cried wolf

Gavin had another meltdown this afternoon and this has brought to the surface a problem that I want to share.  Basically,  Elliott complained that Gavin touched his chest. If you recall,  we have to have very strict rules about Gavin touching anyone. This is because,  he doesn't understand boundaries and has a long history of inappropriate touching. After discussing with the specialists,  we decided to allow for hi-fives,  handshakes and things of that nature.  It's not easy to enforce a zero tolerance policy. This adjustment,  allowed for the occasional contact but only on the hand and nowhere else. Gavin claims to have no memory of touching Elliott and honestly,  I wanted to believe him. The problem is that he's not giving us reason to believe him.  Just this weekend,  he…

#Autism and the 4th of July holiday

While this is more directed at the people in the USA,  I think it would also apply to just about everyone at some point throughout the year. With the 4th of July holiday just 2 days away,  how do you and your family handle all the fireworks and loud noises? Do your kids enjoy the fireworks display? Does the bright lights and loud noises bother them? This can apply to those who don't celebrate the 4th of July as well.  Most people around the globe,  regardless of where you live,  have the opportunity to view and experience a fireworks display.  So please feel free to share your input and experience as well. Also,  if any of you out there are living with #Autism yourself,  I would love your insight in…
