#Autism: Hands on learning.

I was going to start this out with a joke. Something like,  what's the best way to turn a 30 minute shopping trip into a 2 hour ordeal? The answer would have been,  take your autistic child with you. While that's true,  at least in my family,  it would have set the wrong tone.  Although,  I suppose it doesn't matter because I said it anyway.  :-P Joking aside,  I have found that one of the very best ways to help you child with Autism learn and master new skills, nose through hands on training.  Anything can be a potential lesson.  I like to use the grocery store. Things like pushing the cart,  managing the list,  making wise food choices and learning to work a budget can all be accomplished at…

The Lighter Side of #Autism: Weird positions

I wanted to share this with you because I thought it was rather cute. This morning,  Emmett climbed over the couch and wanted to snuggled with me.  This is how he chose to do so. He is comfortable in the most bizarre positions.  I suppose as long as he's comfortable,  that's what matters.  Right? **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III. Gavin is in pretty rough shape

Gavin has spent much of the day sleeping.  He's acting disoriented and confused.  Right now I'm hoping that he is not beginning an autonomic crisis. His blood pressure is probably out of whack and causing the disorientation.  The only thing we can do at home is keep him pumped full of Gatorade to ensure he's hydrated. After the week we've had,  I just can't do another hospital stay right now.  Maybe that sounds selfish to some but I'm only human and can only go so far before crashing. Besides,  if I go down everyone pays a price because I can't take care of them. I really do not want Gavin to endure another stay either. The poor kids already is struggling with #Autism,  #Epilepsy and Primary Immunodeficiency,  just name a…

The MegaMeltdown

Today has been a rough day to say the least.  We were all disappointed that our plans to go out of town for the day fell through. However,  things only got worse as the day went on. Gavin had,  what I can only describe as MegaMeltdown. Every time this happens,  I always find it to be worse than the previous meltdown,  which is a scary trend. What happened this afternoon was that Gavin was not being nice to his brothers and when they tried to get help from Lizze and I,  Gavin tried to stop them. Lizze caught him red handed and immediately intervened, sending Gavin downstairs to me.  She spoke with the boys and I spoke with Gavin. We have to pick our battles with Gavin because any time…

Need a laugh? Check this out.

We had to run an errand this afternoon.  This is what we found in the parking lot. You quote Mr.  Emmett John,  "Daddy, that car is ridiculous.  It's covered in paper." Yes Emmett,  it's ridiculous :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III. #Autism and the 4th of July

We made every attempt to make it to Youngstown today to celebrate the 4th of July with family.  All the kids were in the car and we even left the house. We have to run a couple of errands prior to actually heading towards Y-Town.  In the time it took to hit the store,  about an hour,  the temperature rose almost 10°F.  That put it at almost 100°F and we decided to pull the plug on our plans. Not only is it too hot for most people, but my boys with #Autism, simply don't handle the extreme temperatures.. In Gavin's case,  it could become a life threatening situation. The combination of his dysautonomia, the seereing heat and dehydration will lead to another hospital stay. It really does suck to have…
