Behavioral Crisis: Update 07/21/2012 (8am)

Today is Family Meeting day.  This happens the day following admission and is a meeting between us,  the social worker and Gavin. We will go over everything again and talk very frankly with Gavin. We have decided to have no contact with him while he's there.  This was not an easy decision but one we hope will send a message. We had to do this the last time as well.  We've told him many times,  that if he ever goes back to the psych unit for behavioral reasons that no one would visit him. Now before you judge me,  please understand that this was not easy.  We have to take all the fun out of this admission and ensure that he never wants to return. Lizze cried last night when…

Where do all his clothes go?

We have had a mystery on our hands for quite some time.  We can never find Gavin's clothes.  The main thing that's missing right now is his underware. We just recently bought him a couple new packs and they have seemingly disappeared. Gavin claims no knowledge of the whereabouts of his underpants.  However,  we have searched everywhere we can think of and they are nowhere to be found. This is really frustrating because we can account for everyone else's clothes,  but not his. I don't believe he's eat them,  and yes that is actually a possibility. Either way,  we had to get up extra early this morning so we could hit the store and buy him more underpants to wear while at the hospital.   I'm open to the whole underpants…

Please be patient with me

I know I don't need to say this but I feel better having done so.  Please be patient with me right now.  I'm so behind on my email.  I make it a point to return as many emails as I possibly can.  In light of the last week and the unknown factors going forward,  there will likely be a delay in my response time.  I apologize for that but am confident you all understand.  I respect all of you and don't want you to think I'm ignoring your attempts to reach out,  for whatever reason.  I will probably start getting caught up this weekend after we get back from Akron Children's Hospital. Thanks again for everything.  I truly appreciate all of you.  :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost…

Behavioral Crisis: Update 07/21/2012 (12am)

Lizze and I just arrived back home.  We have to be back up there by 9am tomorrow.  Here's what's going on. Gavin has been admitted. He will be in what they call the FYI program.  I don't know what that stands for but basically,  it's very restrictive and he has to earn everything. He is also being shadowed because of his sexually aggressive behavior.  He will never be left alone,  for both his safety and everyone else's. This a bad thing for Gavin in the sense that he less likely to get away with anything. However,  this is what has to happen.  They also let us pick out his meals.  This takes the power away from him and removes any reward and fun from this visit.  Let me explain.  Gavin…

Behavioral Crisis: Vent and Purge

In pretty frustrated with Gavin right now.  He's playing the victim role.  He has to eat before they take him upstairs. Never mind the fact that Lizze and I haven't eaten anything since all this went down this morning.  We have to wait until we get home because we need the friggin money for gas to go back and forth.  The hospital gave me a pass and sent me to the cafeteria to get him dinner.  You better believe I asked for oatmeal.  Unfortunately,  they only have that for breakfast.  So instead,  I got him a turkey sandwich,  celery,  carrots and a bottle of water.  I made sure that everything was healthy and nothing was deep fried.  He was disappointed but ate it anyway.  He just keeps acting like he's…

Behavioral Crisis: Update 07/20/2012 (8pm)

Gavin has been admitted.  Much beyond that,  I don't know.  I known that he'll probably be here for the better part of a week,  as we have given them permission to tweak his meds. The idea is that we will use this time to find a suitable facility for long term care. More to come.  **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III. Behavioral Crisis: Update 07/12/2012 (7pm)

Gavin was interviewed by the social worker and so were we.  She was awesome,  very patient and full of compassion.  She also did something that few others ever have.  She recognized that he has control over most of these things. That has never happened before.  We have a tentative plan in place.  If he's admitted here,  he will stay for the time and we would locate a suitable long term, more intensive facility for him to be transferred to.  The hangup will be his health issues.  That will be a challenge but they have some ideas.  We are waiting to hear if he will be admitted or not. Thank you for all your support and for following our story.  I'll let you know when we know more.  **Thanks for reading**…

Behavioral Crisis: Update 07/20/2012 (6pm)

We just met with the doctor and few minutes. He was really nice but I don't know that he believes us.  Honestly,  I don't know that I would either.  It's not a common situation and Gavin is not your typical child. However,  like I said,  he is very nice and Gavin admitted to everything when questioned. The doctor is meeting with the social worker and the attending right now and then we'll know where to go from there. At least in theory. **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III.
