3 miles down the road

I managed to get in another 3 miles tonight.  Between Wednesday and Thursday I did almost 8 miles. I burned almost 2,000 kcal and I'm feeling really good about that.  It's not easy to get away anymore but that makes the times that I do,  that much sweeter. I want to try and walk again today and try and put in another 5 miles. God willing,  everyone will be in a good place this evening, so I can sneak out for about an hour and hit the track again. This really helps to manage my stress and without it,  I struggle a lot more. I don't drink.  I don't smoke or do drugs.  All I want to do is walk and eventually run again.  I think that's a pretty good…

Three boys and three different meals

This is a typical meal at the Lost and Tired house.  Granted we haven't put out the fruit, drinks and veggies but you can see that everyone has something different.  It's damn near impossible to make one thing that is acceptable to everyone.  Each of the boys has different sensory needs and those needs impact what types of foods the tolerate.  I can safely say that I no longer enjoy cooking because it has become way to big of an ordeal to please everyone.  In all fairness though,  please is probably the wrong word.  They have no control over this and I don't blame them one bit.  Having said that,  it doesn't mean I still don't get frustrated. Again, this picture just has the three different main course meals.  They…

Bella is all better now

Bella finally has made a full recovery from her surgery, almost 2 weeks ago.  Her stitches were removed this morning and Emmett was right there making sure his best friend was well cared for. We have to try and keep her from licking it for another 24 hours but she can finally run and play once again. Thank you all for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers.  :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III. I need your dicipline advice

I'm looking for a bit of advice.  After Gavin's latest meltdown this afternoon, I want to make sure to send a strong message,  without going overboard.  He's acting as though nothing has happened.  He wants to just pick up where he left off. I'm of the mind that when something this extreme happens,  that he spends the rest of the day in his room, alone and away from his brothers.  He can read or whatever, but he can't just rejoin the rest of us,  as though nothing ever happened.  Honestly,  I don't feel guilty doing this because we can make it a natural consequence and after disrupting the entire house,  we could all use the separation. Does this seem too extreme?  I do think think so, personally. I know Gavin…

I’m so done with this crap but I don’t know what to do

Gavin just had another catastrophic meltdown. Right now we are trying to figure out what to do.  The whole thing happened because his play was getting darker and he knows he's not aloud to play like that with his brothers. Not only did he lie when we questioned him about this but he freaked out upon receiving the consequences for his actions. The punishment was that he lost the TV in his room.  That means we removed the Netflix box from his TV so it would be rendered useless. We told him he could still watch TV, just not in his room. All we did was take away a bit of his freedom.  That was it. We wanted to make sure that we had more to rake away,  should we…

Sleeping through the night

You may recall that Elliott was waking up in the middle of the night for awhile.  While he sleeps,  sometimes his body purges excess energy.  It does so through shaking.  It's not actually a seizure but it does resemble one. The other bizarre thing that accompanies this shaking,  is the sensation that he's falling. This absolutely terrifies him. When he wakes up,  he will not go back to sleep.. In fact,  for the longest time,  he refused to go to sleep because he was afraid he would fall again.  We have been without incident for about 2 weeks now.  We increased his melatonin a little bit and that seems to be helping.  I meant to share this before but life has me pretty distracted anymore.  Better late than never..   :-)…

Gavin: A behavioral update

The last day or so,  Gavin has been doing pretty well.  We haven't had a meltdown in 48 hours. That's a positive thing and I'll take it. On the 22nd,  Gavin will be at the Cleveland Clinic to meet with one of their psychiatrists.  We're hoping to gain some more insight into what makes him tic. For right now,  I'll take whatever good days I can get.  After all, beggars can't be choosers. :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III. Please keep Bella in your thoughts this morning

Ms.  Bella goes back to the Vet’s office at 9am. This time with the hopes of actually getting the stitches, what's left of them,  removed. It's been a long 10 days,  with many trips back and forth. I can't wait to get these friggin things out of her and get back to normal. She wants so badly to run and play.  I want so badly to let her.  :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III.
