The living room picnic

We had a picnic in our living room this evening.  I tossed some chicken on the grill,  cooked some corn and red skin potatoes.  I covered the chicken in Elliott's favorite BBQ sauce and we ate dinner in the living room. Elliott and Emmett ate dinner on a blanket we spread out on the floor.  Lizze and I sat on the couch but we watched some Lego movie together, with the boys.  It was actually kinda nice.  In a little bit I'm taking the boys outside to play for awhile before bedtime.  Thankfully, the neighborhood has been relatively quiet as of late,  so we feel comfortable spending some time in the yard.  Emmett's been doing okay today but hasn't eaten much because his mouth hurts.  I'm gonna have to make…

Confessions of a special needs father: An unpleasant truth

Every once in awhile, I like to share something deeply personal. I do so in these Confessions posts. Today I want to share something that really has me torn,  deep down inside. That something, is how I've felt since Gavin left yesterday. I'm not going to rehash all that we go through when Gavin is home, because you can simply read back to find that out.  I will say that Gavin's behaviors add an extreme level of both stress and distress, to everyone in the household.  It's so bad that we are looking for residential placement but have hit multiple obstacles, namely his health issues. Gavin left for Lizze's parents house for the weekend.  We both hate the idea of having to send one of our kids away,  in order…

What’s one thing your child with #Autism has taught you?

I think that this one is pretty good for a dialog.  What's one thing your child with #Autism has taught you? People unfamiliar with #Autism would probably assume that we,  as their parents are the key teaching.  They wouldn't be wrong but at the same time,  wouldn't be 100% right either.  What a lot of people fail to realize is while,  yes,  we are teaching our kids with #Autism, they are also teaching us.  I thought a great way to help raise #Autism Awareness would be to share something your child with #Autism has taught you... **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of…

Please keep Emmett in your thoughts

Please keep Mr.  Emmett John in your thoughts and prayers again.  He's hit another flare up,  the second one this month.  He has sores on the inside of his little cheeks and he's in a lot of discomfort.  If you're thinking to yourself, didn't he just get over one,  the answer is, yes he did. Occasionally this happens and he ends up having back to back flare ups.  Thankfully,  it doesn't happen all the time.  If you could just keep him in your thoughts and prayers, I would be very grateful.  :-( **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III.…

What do you do for yourself?

We all know how time consuming parenting can be but even more so with special needs parenting. Raising a child on the #Autism also requires a great deal of sacrifice as well. It's easy to lose oneself in our day to day lives. Having said that,  I was wondering if there was at least one thing you do for yourself? Personally,  I enjoy walking in the evening.  It doesn't always happen but I try to do that for myself as often as possible. I also enjoy playing video games on occasion.  I think that's it's important to have something that you do for yourself. Life can be very stressful but taking time to do something for yourself, can help you better cope. So,  my question is,  what if anything do…

Me and my boys :-)

I don't have very many pictures with me in it because I'm always the one taking the picture.  However, this is one of my all time favorite pictures.  I don't even remember where we were at,  aside from in the van.  It's just me and my boys.  It's not to often that all three are in the same picture,  let alone,  like this.   I keep this with me all the time and look at it often.  :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III. People ask me why I do all this…..

So many times I'm asked, why I do this? I know that from the outside, it seems like there's a great deal of struggle.  Truthfully,  there is and sometimes it really feels like I'm in way over my head.  However,  I'll share with you all, what I say to those that ask.  The answer is very,  very simple.  I do this and everything else in my life, for my wife and kids.  All the struggle is washed away,  when I tuck my kids I at night and see this........ Getting to have these truly peaceful moments, at the end of every day,  makes everything make sense.  :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google…

The Lighter Side of #Autism: Back to “Normal”

Today things seemed to be getting back to normal,  whatever that is.  With Bella being fully recovered,  she's back to looking after the boys, without hurting herself.  :-) This afternoon Bella snuggled on the couch with one Mr.  Elliott Richard during nap time. It was nice to see everything settling down.  :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III.
