Autistic Lego Creations: Chipmunk and Acorn

Elliott created a really cool Lego creation and he wanted to share it with you.  In hind sight, I should have taken a better picture of it so you can see just how creative it is.  Anyway,  this is a chipmunk and the little thing next to it is an acorn. The picture doesn't do it justice and I'm sorry for that.  I'm totally proud of him and I love the way his beautiful mind works.  :-) This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung’s Galaxy S III. Today’s #Autism Victory: Good choices

Friday was a pretty good day for Gavin.  He made really good choices and reaped the benefits of that by getting to stay up late and watch a movie.  I would really like to see this be a continuing trend going good into the weekend.  :-) This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung’s Galaxy S III. What video games does your child with #Autism like to play?

Kids love video games. Kids with #Autism seem to really be drawn to them as well and even more so. That’s certainly the case with my kids anyways. Frankly, you can't escape them. Practically every store, both online and brick-and-mortar, sell video games in brightly lit aisles that draw kids in like moths to flame. I thought it would be cool to share what our kids favorite video games are.  It can be difficult to find games that are age or developmentally appropriate for our kids on the #Autism spectrum. You can visit wepc.com for the history of video games and maybe play it with your kids What games do your kids enjoy playing?  What system do you have?  What games do you enjoy playing with your kids? This could be a…

#Autism and Angry Birds: A match made in heaven

I really don't need to ask this but,  how many of your little ones love to play Angry Birds? Just about everyone has their hands up.  :-) My boys love Angry Birds.  They love the plushies,  the video games and now the board game. Alright,  it's not really a board game but it's definitely not a video game either. This game came with actual parts,  angry birds,  naughty piggies and all the pieces to create your own levels.  Then you get to actually fling your angry birds from the included sling shot/catapult thing and take the pigs out.  Elliott came home with this from the Hamptons but I'm sure you can find it elsewhere. This is a really cool way to experience the game.  It also helps with fine motor…

My ball of anxiety

Elliott is extremely anxious.  I know that there a many factors at work here but we need to really push to get him back on something for anxiety. With school starting in a few days,  I'm not sure how well he will be able to cope.  Having said that,  school may just be what he needs to help him feel a bit more secure.  Perhaps the routine and time away from Gavin and Emmett will give him the break he needs.  He did fantastic while he was in the Hamptons and typically does better when he's away from Gavin. I hate even saying that but the proof is in the pudding, so to speak. There is a consistent improvement in Elliott's overall demeanor and relationship with Emmett,  when Gavin's not…

How are your kids handling being back to school?

My boys don't head back until Tuesday, so how it's going to go is yet unwritten.  However,  I'm preparing for the typical issues we see, going into the new school year. Elliott will likely be extremely, extremely anxious. I mean,  he's already extremely anxious.  It's not going to take much to add another extremely.......... Gavin on the other hand is very excited to go back. The problem is that I have no idea how long his body is going to able to cope. How are your kids handling being back to school? Gavin’s “drinking” problem

For the past year or two,  Gavin has been aggressively taking in fluids throughout the day.  It was to the point that he was constantly asking to refill his water bottle.  It would honestly get annoying at times because it was like no sooner was his water bottle filled, than he chugged it down. We never really concerned ourselves with it because he couldn't always have been doing something worse, right? Gavin's autonomic specialist has out him on strict fluid intake restrictions.  This is because he is in medications to retain water, so they don't want him taking in too much. Gavin is allowed 2 liters of fluids,  per day.  Those fluids can be water or gatorade. He's not longer allowed things like juice or pop,  but that's actually a…

The Lighter Side of #Autism: Meet wormy

One to coolest things I've found for the boys,  especially Emmett,  is these magnetic balls. They are basically, magnetic marbles.  You can create all kinds of cool things.  Sometimes,  however, it's the simple things that are the most fun.  Wormy is made by Mr.  Emmett John.  He loves making simple or more complex things with these special magnets. It's the little things in life.  :-) This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung’s Galaxy S III. Please forgive any typos. I do know how to spell but auto-correct hate me.
