Gavin’s IVIG infusion went pretty well and that’s a pleasant change

Gavin's Monday IVIG infusion went pretty well. There weren't any side effects, other than leaving a rather nasty sore at one of the needle sites.  It sucks because it's painful but it's not a major issue. While it's not anything major, it takes forever to heal and I'm not sure what that's all about.  Gavin's currently sleeping and hasn't had any issues like he's gotten after his infusions lately. No headaches or nausea tonight and that means he just might sleep through the night.  That's something that I'm really grateful for.. ☺

I don’t know what the right thing to do is

I'm a little hesitant to give Gavin his IVIG infusion today for a couple reasons.   First of all, he's not been feeling well this weekend. He's doing okay now and isn't complaining of anything but it seems to come and go, so there's no telling if or when he'll be under the weather again.  Secondly, even on a good day, he's been suffering side effects from these infusions and they've been pretty rough.  With him already being under the weather, I worry that the infusion may cause him to get sick.  There are times we put it off for a day but that's not something we like to do very often at all. Plus, Gavin's very focused on his routine and deviating from that stresses him out.   I'm…

Gavin’s Friday IVIG infusion is underway

Gavin's Friday IVIG infusion is well underway and so far, he seems to be doing just fine.   Typically, he will sit in the exact same place and do the exact same thing. Tonight is no different, as he's playing his tablet and constantly checking the needle sites to make sure that nothing is leaking.   This particular infusion is actually going pretty quick and he should be done sometime around 8pm tonight.   We're going to give him medication that will help to limit the issues he sometimes gets as a result of receiving foreign antibodies.   All should go just fine and within about an hour or so, he'll be fast asleep, recovering from this life saving procedure.

Gavin had a bad reaction to his IVIG infusion tonight because apparently, life isn’t challenging enough already

As you know, Gavin receives IVIG infusions twice a week because he's living with a severely compromised immune system. The actual medication is called GAMMAGARD and it's basically made up of antibodies from many, many different donors. This replaces the defunct antibodies in Gavin's body, for a short period of time. He's been receiving these infusions for many years now and will continue for the rest of his life. Now we're all caught up and everyone is on the same page. Gavin received his IVIG infusion tonight and the infusion itself went well. The actual infusions themselves usually go well.  Sometimes we hit some snags but that's really the exception to the rule. What happened tonight was a bad reaction. It happens on occasion but it hasn't happened in a…
