Now his mattress is uncomfortable

It was a rough night because Emmett isn't comfortable for him anymore. He says it hurts his ribs. I'm not sure what that means or how that's possible, but it seems to be a real problem. I'm thinking it's sensory related, that much is obvious but what I don't know is why now? It could be as simple as too much change in a short amount of time. If you think about it, he slept in four different beds while we were on vacation. Maybe that messed him up just a bit?

The transition home is proving more difficult

The transition home from Florida is proving to be a but harder than originally thought. The most profoundly impacted is of course, Mr. Emmett. He's still very easily overwhelmed. Dr. Pattie suggested that it could take awhile before things get back to normal. One of Emmett's biggest struggles involves sleep. He's not able to fall asleep in his own bed. Right now, he's having to fall asleep in our bed, and even that's a struggle. I'm hoping that as more time goes by, he will decompress and feel more comfortable in his own bed again.

WTF? Is he trying to send me a message?

Emmett left me a little present the other night. One one hand, it's really sweet of him but on the other, I wonder if he's trying to send me a message. Creepers are not considered friendly creatures and leaving one on my pillow seems, at the very least, like a mixed message. lol

Terrifying: One of my kids with #Autism wandered off while on vacation

The family and I just got back to our condo after a roughly two hour long excursion. We walked the entirety of Give Kids the World Village and then went to dinner. As we were heading off to the café, Emmett said something about taking a shortcut. We thought he meant looping around the sidewalk but instead, he took off running behind one of the buildings and was gone. It took us a bit to find him and it was terrifying. On one hand, I knew he could get out of the village and would be found, but at the same time he was gone. Lizze went in one direction, while the boys and I went in the other. Thankfully, she found him waiting for us at the café. We…

3 – 2 – 1—Meltdown

Emmett had a pretty rough morning today. He was really upset about his inability to wear different shirts because of how they feel on him. He's been wearing the same shirt to school every day because it's the only shirt that doesn't bother him. We of course wash it all the time, and cleared this with the school on the first day. It's more important that he get to school, even in his pug shirt, than miss school because of sensory related clothing issues. Apparently his teacher said something to him yesterday about always wearing the same shirt, and Emmett walked away feeling heavily pressured to wear a different shirt today. My guess is that she simply made a comment about wearing the shirt for picture day, which was yesterday.…

Massive Morning #Meltdown

Elliott had a really good morning but Emmett's was pretty rough. He had a pretty massive meltdown over some confusion about when we are supposed to sign his homework folder. He was thinking that since it's Tuesday, we should be signing for Tuesday. We tried explaining to him that we don't sign for Tuesday until he comes home from school and we go through his folder. I explained that we signed Monday's spot and will sign for Tuesday, when he gets home from school today. He was so freaked out, I had to call the school so they could verify that Lizze and I were correct, and Emmett could relax. Even that didn't help him feel better about this whole folder thing. This is pretty straight forward logic, and I'm…

This is a huge victory for us

This will be super short and sweet, because I'm going to bed. For the first time in a long time, both boys went to sleep tonight without any issues. Elliott's been having a rough time falling asleep and Sunday night was really bad. Tonight however, both he and Emmett fell asleep to Lizze reading Harry Potter. This is a pretty big victory, and it means that I have a good chance of getting so sleep tonight. I fully intend on taking advantage of it.

Emmett drew himself as a superhero and it’s adorbs

For an art project at school, the kids were asked to draw themselves as a superhero. In my book, these kids are all superheros on their own, but this was much more fun. ☺ Emmett drew himself as Harry Potter. Lizze has been reading Harry Potter to the boys each night and Emmett's a big fan. I love the way he sees his superhero character. He drew the infamous scar and also included his old mohawk haircut from a few years back. I think this is such a cool piece of art and this picture was actually taken by Emmett after school, using my phone. He grabbed my phone, ran back into the school and snapped a few pictures of his masterpiece. ♥ I'm happy to share this with you…
