Celebrating Father’s day while being investigated by Child Protective Services

Today has been particularly rough for me. Gavin's had a mixed day and that always takes a lot out of me.  However, more than that it's the fact that I truly don't feel worthy of Father's Day. I look at the life I'm providing for my family and I know that it's less than they deserve.  Trying to celebrate Father's Day while in the middle of a Child Protective Services investigation just doesn't sit well.  This past week alone, the car has broken down, we lost a utility that's, you know, pretty important and we haven't heard back from CPS like we were supposed to.  That makes me really nervous. We have nothing to hide but still........... Then of course the trolls come out to play and decide that they…

Gavin’s having chest pain again

What Father's Day would be complete without your 13 year old son having chest pain? Of course that's a rhetorical question.  In all seriousness, Gavin is having chest pain again.  No one knows what's going on and what's causing the chest pain.  Everything always checks out okay.  While that's clearly a good thing, it doesn't do much for the parent that's worried about what it actually is. As we find ourselves in the middle of perfect playground weather, it's important to take precautions that help to ensure the safety of your little one. Gia Ramsey, injury prevention coordinator for safe kids and Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley, talks about playground safety. This is another great video and one that will help provide you with the tools to keep your child safe on the playground. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pL4rZ_1I_Bo&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Happy Father’s Day 2013

Good afternoon everyone. I wanted to take a few minutes and wish all the Dad's out there a very Happy Father's Day. It's the one day a year that we celebrate Dad's. I hope your day is what you need it to be. I want to remember all the Dad's that have come before us, as well as those who have passed on.

Gavin’s not feeling right

I'm a bit concerned about Gavin this morning because he says he doesn't feel right.  Actually he says,  "Daddy, I feel funny".  It's never a good sign when Gavin says something like that because he almost never complains to us about something like this.  It makes me wonder if we are dealing with either seizures or a pending autonomic crisis.  On the other hand, he could just be feeling dizzy or something all together benign. There's no way to know for sure until something either happens or doesn't happen.  I'm praying that it doesn't happen. As I await what today brings, I'm a bit anxious and full of worry because the last thing in the world I want is to see my son in the hospital again today. This site…

Meet team Lost and Tired 2013

I promised to share the pictures from the Lace it. Race it. Face it. 5K walk/run for the Autism Society of Greater Akron. Here are of few of them. I chose these because they also focus on Team Lost and Tired. I wanted to introduce my team members and this was a great way to do just that. Everyone did so well yesterday and I'm so grateful that they all gave so freely of their time for such a amazing cause. I'm also glad to have finally met the Director of the Autism Society of Greater Akron, Laurie Cramer, in person. She's an awesome person and we will be working together in the very near future. So without further ado, I'm proud to introduce you to Team Lost and Tired…

This makes me sad

I just saw the picture that was taken of Lizze, myself and the kids.  What's the first thing you notice? For me, the first thing I notice is Gavin off to the side. This wasn't done on purpose and it breaks my heart to see this. It's like he's disconnected from the rest of us. If we become aware of this before the picture is taken, we'll pull him in.  However, if we do pull him in, it becomes obvious that he is uncomfortable.  He's been this way for as long as I can remember.  Sometimes he does okay and blends in like nothings wrong and other times it's a bad experience. Do you see this with your kids on the Autism Spectrum? This site is managed almost exclusively via…
