Another sleepless night

Between all the people setting off explosive fireworks and her hot flashes, Lizze didn't get much sleep...again. It's going to be an exceptionally long day for her.... Emmett's also having a rough morning and my  thought is that we should all just go bad to bed and wake up on Saturday. Check out Gavin’s Sidewalk Art

While celebrating the 4th of July holiday at my parents house, Gavin created some sidewalk art.  Check it out and leave your positive comments below. Gavin was inspired by The Legend of Zelda.  I believe the piece on the right is The Triforce.  Great job Gavin. My son is psychotic

The title accurately sums everything up.  My son is psychotic.  While this isn't really anything new, it does appear to be getting worse and not better. As a reminder, being psychotic does not necessarily make someone a serial killer.  In layman's terms, psychotic means losing touch with reality. In my son Gavin's case, he essentially loses the ability to distinguish between real and imaginary. What typically happens is that he gets drawn into these very elaborate, very detailed, imaginary world's.  Historically, these world's have revolved around two themes, Sonic the Hedgehog and Legos. If it's not one, it's the other.  That said, we have seen them blended before. Most people will never experience their child in a psychotic break and while I'm very happy for them, it does make this…

One of our toughest daily struggles: Self-Regulation

Gavin is struggling with self-regulation (not that it's anything do) and one of the more specific issues is with eating.  If we allowed Gavin to his own devices, he would eat and eat until he pukes. I don't know that I've ever heard him say that he's full. This is one of the reasons that he has to be watched so closely.  He will sneak/hoard food if you don't watch and he will break your heart by telling you how hungry he is.  Since he's moved back home he's dropping the weight he had gained.  I think he's down to about 125 lbs now and he's lost his chipmunk cheeks and his belly.  It's really hard because we basically have to tell him when he's had enough to eat.  He'll…

Today has been a sensory nightmare

Emmett is having a very sensory sensitive day.  We're trying to get out the door to go to my parents house and Emmett can't get his shoes or socks on.  His socks and shoes aren't tight enough.  He will only wear socks when they are really tight.  His shoes have to be equally tight as well or else he won't wear them.  Any of you or your kids have the same struggle? Did Elliott finish his 1st 2 mile race?

I'm so incredibly proud of my son Elliott.  He's 7 years old and just ran his 1st official race, with my sister Jenn. They ran for 2 miles and finished in around 35 minutes (I think. I was watching him, not the clock). Elliott has both asthma and Autism and can still do anything he sets his mind to. I can't explain how proud of him I am.  This is the 1st of many races he wants to do. My personal goal is to get myself back in shape and run with him. That would be so amazing. Great job Elliott and Jenn, I'm so proud of you both.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSZIh1nnXKs&feature=youtube_gdata_player This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the @SamsungMobileUS Galaxy Note 2 by @Tmobile.
