The hits just keep coming

I just heard from my Mom about my grandfather. Unfortunately, it's not good news.  The cancer has spread to his bones. My Mom and Dad are going to Cleveland to see him at some point tomorrow.  I would love to go with them but Lizze has calling hours at about the same time. Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers.  This is a difficult time for all of us.  This site is managed almost exclusively via WordPress for Android. Please forgive any typos as autocorrect HATES me. ;-) Follow @Lost_and_Tired Visit the My Autism Help Forums To reach me via email, please Contact Me

We lost another member of our family this week

Please keep Lizze's family in your thoughts and prayers.  She lost her great uncle this week and calling hours are Thursday evening. We've lost 8 friends and family members this year and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.  I really appreciate your positive thoughts... Thank you to the supervisor at Jobs and Family Services

There is finally a light at the end of the tunnel and we should arrive at that destination no later than Friday afternoon.  Lizze got a call from a supervisor at Jobs and Family Services this afternoon.  She explained that she can't do anything until Friday.  If our caseworker hasn't pushed the button on my family's account, her supervisor will do it for her. I'm not sure that I understand the logic of this policy but all we have to do is make it until Friday. Basically, we have one day left and we will be able to finally go full grocery shopping for the first time since the end of June.  It's been a really, really long month but we've made it this far.  We've had some help along…

He’s being a little stinker

Gavin's having a rough day.  He's been very, very bossy with his brothers.  They aren't liking this much and Gavin just doesn't seem to get it.  There's been a bit of tension and a few timeouts. I'm not sure what's gotten in to him today but he's being a little stinker........ Today’s #Autism Fact: 07/24/2013

One of my goals for this site is to help spread accurate Autism Awareness.  This involves sharing information about Autism that is not based on opinion or stereotype. Today's Autism fact is one that I feel is extremely important and very commonly ignored. Autism affects roughly 2,000,000 people in the United States alone.  Each one of those people touched by Autism, it's impacted in a different way.  Simply because two people share the same diagnosis, doesn't mean they share all the same symptoms and characteristics. Every person with Autism has their own personality and unique state of being.  Assuming that everyone with Autism is the same is completely erroneous.  Each person is unique and  very likely has unique needs.  It's best to recognize every person with Autism as a unique…

Share your most embarrassing #Autism related moment

Let's be honest, most of us have experienced moments with our Autistic child that were embarrassing.  Being embarrassed is a natural  human response and nothing to be ashamed of.  I thought that we could share our embarrassing moments.  Chances are we could all use a laugh.  I'll share mine with you first. This involves Gavin and a trip to the local Chinese buffet.  When we were being seated by the hostess, Gavin said, in a really loud voice, "hey you all look exactly the same".  I wanted to crawl into a hole and die.  How about you? I hope this makes you smile

I haven't done one of these in a while.  However, while at Dr. Pattie's office yesterday I snapped this picture.  I was taking pictures of Elliott and Emmett having a noodle fight. If you look in the background, you'll see Gavin doing God only knows what.  It's pretty funny because I didn't even notice this until after the fact.  I think Gavin was pretending to run away scared. Honestly, I don't care what he was actually doing because he was having fun and wasn't hurting anyone. I thought you all might get a smile out of this one. I know I did.  :-) This site is managed almost exclusively via WordPress for Android. Please forgive any typos as autocorrect HATES me. ;-) Follow @Lost_and_Tired Visit the My Autism Help Forums To…

Diving into the world of the “visibly challenged”

As per our Tuesday night ritual, we met with Dr. Pattie.  We were discussing Elliott and his anxiety.  Dr.  Pattie gave us a few things that we can try, that will help to empower Elliott.  I'll let you know how that goes.  The discussion spun back around to Gavin and how he's doing at home. Behaviorally, I can't complain because he's doing really well.  That said, we are having problems as a result of his missing filter and current psychological status. Gavin's never had much of a filter and simply says whatever he's thinking.  He has no concept of what appropriate is, especially in mixed company. I don't think that he intends to offend or upset anyone, at least not all the time. He's essentially a 13 year old toddler…
