We finally got Emmett’s new glasses in

Yesterday, Emmett finally got his replacement glasses.  One night, about a week or so ago, Emmett cat destroyed his glasses.  I made the wearable while we were waiting for his new glasses to come in. They came in yesterday and so we finally were able to pick them up. Right now they are purr-fect and he's super excited to have them back on his face.  :-) This site is managed almost exclusively via WordPress for Android. Please forgive any typos as autocorrect HATES me. ;-) Follow @Lost_and_Tired Visit the My Autism Help Forums To reach me via email, please Contact Me

Please say a prayer for my friend

A very, very good friend of mine is undergoing major eye surgery on both his eye today.  His right eye cannot be fixed and vision in that eye cannot be restored. However, they are hoping to be able to save his left eye.  Of the surgery works, the vision in his left eye will be restored. If this doesn't work, he will one his vision completely.  This person  is the closest thing I have to an older brother.  He can use all the positive thoughts and prayers you can muster.  Thank you all so much. The stress is getting to me

The stress of everything is getting to me again.  Gavin seems to be getting worse and I feel completely helpless. The reality is that most likely this is just part of Gavin's journey and there is no way to change    course. The vicious dog problem: Update 08/23/2013

Some pretty big things happened today in regards to the vicious dog problem our neighborhood has been facing.  I came down pretty hard on the dog warden for not doing anything about this.  As it turns out, none of the victims of these dog attacks followed through on complaints and affidavits so that the dog warden could act. I'm the kind of person that can be your best friend, or if you threaten the safety of my family, your worst enemy. I'm also a squeaky wheel and as you know, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.  Thursday morning I received a call from the dog warden wanting to discuss what was going on.  This is when I learned, contrary to what I was being told by those around me, not…

It’s never good to lose a previously mastered skill, it’s heartbreaking

I'm really, really worried about Gavin.  I don't know what's going on but he's slipping. It's gotten to the point that he can no longer figure out how to open the front door. We have three locks on the door and they aren't exactly rocket science. He used to be able to open the front door without a single problem. Not anymore. :-( Today,  Gavin was trying to get out the front door to get something off of our front porch. He was being supervised and had permission, so this wasn't a problem. Unfortunately, he couldn't figure out the locks and I had to open the door for him. This really scares me because he is no longer capable of performing this simple task.  It's never a good thing to…

Operation Hope: I don’t remember

I'm growing more and more concerned about Gavin's condition. His continued neurological regression is really scaring me. The biggest and most obvious problem is his memory or rather lack thereof. Gavin has absolutely no short term memory.  I'm thinking that we need to employ a small note book and have him keep it on his person. We will have to have him write things down and maybe that will help him to remember at least some of the things he needs to remember. Sometimes he can remember but most of the time he really struggles. He will be back at the Cleveland Clinic in a few weeks and we can explore our options with his neurologist. Unfortunately, I don't think there is going to be much we can do. We…

What’s the grossest thing your kids enjoy eating?

Elliott is the pickiest eater in our family.  Getting him to try new things is not easy, by any stretch of the imagination. Having said that, he's created a sandwich that he loves to eat now.  It's a barbecue bread sandwich.  It's literally barbecue sauce between two pieces of bread. It really looks gross but he likes it and I can't complain about him trying something way outside of even my comfort zone. Great job Mr. Elliott, I'm so proud of you cresting something that you enjoy eating. With that said, what's the grossest thing your kids have eaten or enjoy eating. I just know someone is going to say poop. If so, please don't feel bad.  My oldest has PICA and I've seen him eat things that make me…

I wish: To those out that that simply don’t understand life with #Autism…..

Dedicated to all those who can relate   I wish....   I wish you knew what it was like to walk a mile in my shoes. I wish you knew the challenges I face raising a special needs family. I wish you knew that I need help even though I don't ask. I wish you knew how difficult and yet amazing my kids are. I wish you knew how a random phone call could make my day. I wish you knew how isolated and unimportant I feel. I wish you knew how tired I am. I wish you knew how much I hate your unsolicited and insensitive advice, especially in front of my kids. I wish you knew how completely overwhelming life is. I wish you knew how much my…
