The fighting began before the sun came up O_o

The boys were up way, way too early this morning.  Emmett for one was in a really bad mood.  To be honest, I don't even know what they were fighting about but I believe this was mostly one sided and coming from Emmett.  Elliott did pretty well with Emmett pushing his buttons but before long, the screaming back and forth began.  Like I said, I have no idea what was going on but their routine had changed last night and perhaps that was responsible.  Netflix was down for us since yesterday afternoon.  It's fixed now but it was unavailable at bedtime and when they woke up this morning. Typically, when they wake up really early, they put on a show and go back to sleep.  That wasn't possible at the…

Emmett wrote his first sentence all by himself

I forgot to share this earlier.  When Emmett got into the car yesterday after picking him up from school, he was so excited to show us this.  Apparently, he was asked to write a sentence to describe the picture.  He did just that.  It's a short sentence but he did it all by himself.  I couldn't be any prouder.  :-) This site is managed almost exclusively from my Galaxy S4. Please forgive any typos as autocorrect HATES me. ;-) Follow @Lost_and_Tired "Like" me on Facebook Visit the My Autism Help Forums To reach me via email, please Contact Me   Setup of an account with Bluehost and I get paid. I’m not sure I agree with the school…….

Gavin had a pretty good day at school today.  Unfortunately, he post a point in Math class once again for getting frustrated.  I gotta be honest, I'm not sure I agree with this point system being used this year. There has to be some sort of accountability but some of the reasons these kids are losing points seems really   petty. There isn't a set guideline for what behavior requires the loss of a point.  It's essentially up to the teachers discretion.  Elliott lost a point today as well.  According to him, they were doing a worksheet and the teacher instructed the class that they were supposed to skip some of the problems because they were too difficult.  Elliott says that he didn't hear that because other kids were talking.  Instead…

Confessions of an #Autism Dad: I’m so frustrated

I'm going to share this with the expressed purpose of helping you all to understand that it's okay to feel this way. You shouldn't best yourself up for getting frustrated or being overwhelmed by your child with Autism. Last night at Dr. Pattie's, we were trying to talk with Gavin about the problems he's having in Math. We were asking Gavin to explain what kind of problems he's having in Math and he didn't know how.  We literally  tried a million different ways to get him to understand    what we were trying to learn and it just wasn't happening.  I literally got to the point that I wanted to beat my head into the table we were sitting around.  It's not Gavin’s fault and I'm not mad at him but…

Be sure to thank your child’s Occupational Therapist

If your child receives occupational therapy, you likely already know how much of a difference that can make in the life of a child with Autism and/or SPD. I want to remind everyone to make sure that you take an extra second out of your day to say Thank You to your child's OT.  Yes, it's their job to help our kids but so any of them are absolutely amazing and have such a positive impact on our kids. Don't they at least deserve a thank you? I for one owe our boys occupational therapists a great many thanks.  They've been instrumental in helping our boys to be where they are today. Lizze and I are forever grateful and make sure to say Thank You, after each session.  Please feel…
