Gavin: Crisis 6/18/2011

We will be leaving momentarily. We are once again on our way to Akron Children's Hospital with Gavin, who is in crisis. This time however, we expect to be transferred somewhere else. I wanted to ask for everyone's prayers, as I'm not sure how this is going to go. Gavin, as I explained yesterday, is pulling his teeth out. Partly to get money from the grandparents and the tooth fairy and partly because "it feels good when I pull them out". He informed me last night that he also does it because it feels good and not just for the money. Maybe it's a stemming thing or maybe some weird sensory thing but either way it has to stop. This morning he had a meltdown and self-injured. He got himself really good this time. We called the doctors and they…

A visit with family

We all made the short trip to Lizze parents house to visit with her family. The boys had a blast and I enjoyed myself as well. Emmett was glued to his Android4Autism device, as usual. Gavin ended up getting sick and so I had to bring him home. Lizze said with the other two and her mom brought them home later. Emmett is spending the night. What's frustrating for me was that, apparently, Gavin has been sick all day and just didn't tell us. He really wanted a cupcake and he knew we would not let him go if he was sick. He does this type of thing rather often and it's just frustrating. A lot could have been avoided. He got home and vomitted. He's sleeping now but he…

I couldn’t resist this one…sorry Mom

It's not very often that I post off topic things like this but tonight I'm making an exception. This had me cracking up and boy did I need it. It's been a rough day. I'll fill you all in later. For now. have a good laugh. I'm sure many of us, special needs parents or not can relate to this. Not that we would EVER think anything like this though :) DISCLAIMER: Alright. PLEASE make sure your kids ARE NOT within ear shot of this one. A friend on mine posted this on Facebook and I think it's pretty funny. PLEASE NOTE: this is NOT kid appropriate.  You have been warned...

I will never understand……

I will never understand....and clearly neither will they. I had a comment posted earlier to my "Please lose the word "retard from you vocabulary" post. The comment read: "It's a word, you only make it good or bad by how you take it. Lighten up." My reply was as follows: "While your entitled to your own opinion, clearly you have never had a child with special needs. When you hear your child, someone you love more then anything else in the world, called a "retard" it's no longer "just a word". I'm VERY aware that "retard" is a word. When used in a non-offensive manner it's just fine. When used to describe a child, it's disgusting, offensive, archaic and ignorant. Maybe I need to lighten up but you need to have a heart." Look,…

I think we actually have to ban the “tooth fairy”

You heard that correctly. The Lost and Tired household is going to have to ban the tooth fairy. That sounds a little extreme...right? What if I told you that Gavin is now literally pulling his teeth out. Gavin is basically, picking a tooth and literally wiggling it until he can pull it out. We didn't realize this was going on until this afternoon. Gavin has lost 3 or 4 teeth in the past couple weeks and honestly we didn't think anything of it. However, he came down last night and told me that he "pulled" out another tooth. When he used the word "pull" instead of "lost", it caught my attention. Yesterday was a bad day and Lizze isn't doing good at all so I didn't get a chance to…

My sweet boys

Gavin and Elliott wanted to have a sleep over tonight in Elliott's room. I said sure, no problem. I want them to have fun. So they set up shop on the floor and fell asleep watching movies. I love them so much and they look so peaceful on this picture......

Why Autism is SO challenging for us

Autism is challenging for us on many levels. However, I want to focus on one area for this post. As many of you know Gavin is chocked full of challenges. He has also been experiencing these bouts of "pain" that no one can seem to explain. The latest of which was earlier this week with the pain in his lower right quadrant. We almost took him to the emergency room but the pain magically disappeared. So we opted instead, to see his pediatrician, again, for an eval and advice. He ran a battery of tests to try and identify an potential problems and suspected his gallbladder may be the problem. Well, we had the final test done very early this morning and it appears that gallstones are NOT the problem. We…

Gavin gets a Ultrasound

In about 4 hours from the time of the post being published, Gavin will be having a ultrasound. They will be looking for Gall stones, at least I think that's what they are looking for.  Dr. H is concerned that this random pain is Gallbladder related. The ultrasound is non-invasive so Gavin should handle everything pretty well. I would be nice to know what the heck is going on with him. Please say a prayer that everything is ok. - Lost and Tired Please Vote for Lost and Tired (just click the link) and help me spread Autism Awareness. Everyone can Vote once a day :)
