Emmett’s Surgery: The arrival

We have arrived on time despite every idiot being on the road at the same time this morning.  Traffic on 77N was horrible and we were very lucky to arrive when we did.  My stomach is in knots right now.  It was weird,  when we were driving up here today,  I felt just as sick as I used when we had to go to court to fight for Gavin.  I hate that feeling,  it's such a helpless feeling.  Emmett is going in for a relatively minor surgery today for a rare condition called PFAPA.  I can't even begin to imagine what parents and kids go through with more serious surgeries for more serious conditions.  My heart truly goes out to them. - Lost and Tired Posted by Wordpress for Android…

Mentally preparing

Emmett's surgery is scheduled for 2.5 hours from now.  I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't nervous.  I absolutely hate doing this even though it's likely in his best interest.  I say likely in his best interest because no one knows if this will even make a difference for sure.  I've spoken with a few parents that have already been through this with their child and the results were positive.  No one knows what causes PFAPA but this has been shown to reduce the flare ups and the are really no long term issues associated with removing tonsils and adenoids.  Emmett actually slept in this morning for once and is in a really good mood.  I'm gonna ask him if he wants to do his shirt of the…

2nd IgG infusion down

As I mentioned earlier,  I stayed back today in order to watch Emmett.  Lizze took Gavin to Akron Children's Hospital for his 2nd IgG infusion.  By all accounts it was a success. However,  Gavin had an accident and wet himself so badly that they sent him home in scrubs.  No one is sure what happened there but outside of some concerning movements,  he did really well.  He is currently recovering at Lizze's parents house tonight and tomorrow.  He will likely be home most, if not all,  of this week.  So far it looks as though he will tolerate these infusions well.  This is another big win for him I think.  Great job Gavin,  you never cease to amazed me... - Lost and Tired Posted by Wordpress for Android via Tegra…

Elliott’s first day was great

Elliott's first day at his new school was a resounding success.  In fact one of his classmates from his old school is in his class now. He is so excited to see him.  Elliott says he won't be nervous about going back in the morning.  To quote him exactly he said,  "it's cool dad".  Hey,  I'll take that as a positive and more forward.  I'm really glad that worked out...  One less thing to worry about.... - Lost and Tired Posted by Wordpress for Android via Tegra 2 powered Motorola Photon 4G (provided to me at no charge by Sprint) without the use of proper editing tools and disadvantages of a bastardized version of auto-correct. Emmett’s has a routine

So Emmett got home from school today and immediately began the coming home routine. Step 1) Remove the shirt the moment you cross the threshold. Step 2) Shoes and socks come off next. Step 3) Pants are the last to come off. Step 4) Chicken nuggets and Netflix on the couch with Daddy. - Lost and Tired Posted by Wordpress for Android via Tegra 2 powered Motorola Photon 4G (provided to me at no charge by Sprint) without the use of proper editing tools and disadvantages of a bastardized version of auto-correct. Senseless

Disclaimer: This post is not intended for my younger readers. Grownup topic is being discussed. I was informed today that the gentleman that was stabbed the other night,  passed away, leaving behind two young daughters. So now he went from being stabbed to being murdered and his two daughters went from having a Daddy to being without one. A host of a local, very popular radio show apparently knew him on a personal level. She said he was the nicest guy in the world and would have given you the shirt off his back. So far I have heard that he was just an innocent victim of a senseless, random act of violence. I don't even know what to say. What is wrong with the world?? Thus wasn't a drug…

Prepped and ready to go

Gavin is prepped and ready to go to his second IgG infusion. About an hour before the infusion is to begin, we apply a cream to Gavin's skin that will completely numb the area. This is done so that the experience is as pleasant as possible. He should feel no pain and that will help to make this more of a positive experience for him. We do this at home prior to leaving so that we don't have to wait an hour after we get there for the meds to kick in. Thia way his arm is already numb and we can get started right away. This shaves an hour off the entire process. Now it should be done in approximately 4 hours. I wish that I could be there…

Emmett’s triumphant return to school

Emmett returned to school today for the only the 3rd day since school began. His health issues have prevented him from attending. While he did go back today, he will be out fir the next 10 days.  On Wednesday morning Emmett will be having surgery to remove his tonsils and adenoids in the hope of improving his health. No one knows for sure if this will make a difference because the PFABA that Emmett suffers from is very rare. However, it has been shown to reduce the frequency of outbreaks or flare ups. God willing, this will help Emmett to make it through the winter this year relatively unscathed. - Lost and Tired Posted by Wordpress for Android via Tegra 2 powered Motorola Photon 4G (provided to me at no…
