We are in the room now and waiting to see the doctor.  Somethings definitely...off with Gavin.  Right now he's in the hospital bed,  reading his book but something is just not right.  Do you ever experience this type of thing?  You know somethings wrong but don't know quite what it is.  That's what it's like at the moment.  He's acting......funny and for Gavin that's saying something.  This is almost like his blood sugar is low,  although that's never been a problem before.  The CBC from last night's blood work was fine,  but they are only checking white blood cell counts. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.  If it's not to much to ask,  I would love to walk away with actual answers this time and not more…

We just got a panicked call from the school.  They said Gavin is very lethargic and having a difficult time walking.  Lizze took off a few minutes ago to go get him.  Based on what we see,  we'll decide whether or not to head to the hospital.  This is pretty concerning and I'm actually starting to freak out a bit.  The school has only ever called us when something was very,  very wrong. This when moving thing is starting to weigh pretty heavy.  There's no question that we need to move,  however,  the big question is where.  Finding a home that will provide comfort,  safety and stability for 3 special needs children is not an easy task,  especially on our budget.  Nevertheless,  this is going to have to happen,  and sooner than later.  Part of my struggle right now is that I'm simply spread to thin.  We have a major battle looming before us with the school district over Emmett's ETR and IEP.  However,  in light of us moving,  does that even matter?  I mean if we are in a new school district,  do we just start over,  or will they mistakes made by our current school district haunt us there as well?…

The other day while at OT with Emmett we learned a new sensory trick that seems to help Emmett out. Basically,  it's sour spray.  It provides a tremendous amount of sensory input that benefits Emmett.  He actually seeks it out now.  Although,  truth be told it almost feels like training a dog but it does work and I tend to not question things that work. If I need Emmett to get dressed and he won't,  I offer him a spray.  Once he gets the spray he seems more cooperative and will get dressed without as much trouble.  I know this sounds weird,  and maybe someone can chime in here with a better explanation but it provides a significant amount of input.  The OT's where we go have been doing this…

As many of you are already aware, Gavin has been on a necessary but crazy amount of medications for a long time (See: My interview on CNN). Gavin was taking almost 9 different medications per day. This was necessary in order to help manage some of his health and mental health issues. As much as we hated to have him take these medication, they improved the quality of his life and the results were tough to argue. With that said, my wife and I feel very strongly about constantly reviewing the need for medications. Meaning that, if they are needed, we don't want him to take them. Our doctors are very good and reevaluating the need for medications and are by no means overzealous about prescribing them. While it may seem…
