Picture of the Day: 11/01/2011

Here is today's picture of the day.  Elliott is posing with Gavin's hat on (which is much to big) and looking extra cute. - Lost and Tired Posted by Wordpress for Android via Samsungs Epic Touch 4G (provided to me at no charge by Sprint) without the use of proper editing tools and disadvantages of a bastardized version of auto-correct. Rough days at school

Elliott had another rough day at school today.  He's having a bit of a tough run lately. We're not quite sure what's going on but there appears to be anxiety and possibly ADHD. He's currently being evaluated by the school in order to find. Do put what services,  if any,  he would benefit from. I truly hole that this is just a transitional thing and not a sign of things to come. Gavin on the other hand,  is having great days at school.  We would expect him to be struggling but instead he's thriving....at least as far as behavioral things are concerned. - Lost and Tired Posted by Wordpress for Android via Samsungs Epic Touch 4G (provided to me at no charge by Sprint) without the use of proper editing…

Flushing a good day down the toilet

Today was going pretty well until a few minutes ago.  First,  Gavin comes downstairs and wants to know if he can shut the door to Elliott's bedroom because it's giving him scary thoughts.  In layman's terms,  he's seeing things again.  This is not good.. Elliott was already sleeping on the couch so I told Gavin to shut the door if it makes him feel better. After he went upstairs,  I sat on the couch thinking about what had just happened. I was wondering what this meant for Gavin. My thoughts however, were rudely interrupted by the sound of gunfire. I'm not sure where it came from but it was pretty close. Like I didn't already have enough to think about. - Lost and Tired Posted by Wordpress for Android via…

Sensory Bombs [Giveaway]

I have partnered with the Jillian McCabe, the maker of Sensory Bombsto provide three of my readers with five FREE Sensory BombsSensory Bombs are a tool to help your special needs and/or typical children with bath time and subsequently bed time..

Sensory Bombs are calming tools that offer a highly effective sensory experience. In essence, they are like a weighted blanket for the bathtub; they make the water heavier and provide evenly distributed pressure that “hugs” the muscles and joints. As a result, the child is relaxed, moisturized and able to transition into a restful sleep.

Picture of the day: 10/31/2011

Today's picture of the day is brought to you by Akron Children's Hospital.  Well,  at least that's where I took the picture.  I want to get one of these for my house to remind the kids to slooooooow down.  Unfortunately, I don't think it would work.  One can dream though...yes? - Lost and Tired Posted by Wordpress for Android via Samsungs Epic Touch 4G (provided to me at no charge by Sprint) without the use of proper editing tools and disadvantages of a bastardized version of auto-correct. Elliott’s speech evaluation

Elliott's speech evaluation was today.  He doesn't have a great deal of speech related issues but struggles with some of his sounds.  For example,  when he says Gavin,  it comes out as Gawin.  He also has a hard time with the "R" sound.  Language in both expressive and compression are off the charts.  The bigger issues revolve around sensory related things and will be addressed during OT,  next week. - Lost and Tired Posted by Wordpress for Android via Samsungs Epic Touch 4G (provided to me at no charge by Sprint) without the use of proper editing tools and disadvantages of a bastardized version of auto-correct. Sensory Bombs [Review]

Update: I thought it was important to mention that these work great on neurotypical kids and adults as well. The Problem Today I'm reviewing something called a Sensory Bombs. Sensory Bombs were created by Jillian McCabe, a fellow special needs parent and one of my readers. Jillian is the mother of three year old London. London, has the non-verbal form of Autism as well as Sensory Processing Disorder or SPD.  The Sensory Bombs was created by Jillian as a means of addressing London's sudden fear of bath water. I have written many, many times about the struggles we encounter trying to bathe our 3 boys on the Autism Spectrum. Gavin, our oldest has been taking showers for years and does very well with them. Elliott and Emmett on the other hand, have many sensory related issues in…

In hindsight…..

Lizze and I really stressed over the whole trick or treat thing.  We really felt like we were in a no win situation. In hindsight,  I'm glad we decided to allow Gavin to go trick or treating.  Yes,  he drove me crazy all...day.... long but he had a good time.  So far he seems to be doing well.  He went to bed without any problems at all.  When you are a special needs parent,  you have to sometimes aggonize over the decisions that come more easily to others.  We have to think through all the possible consequences of making a particular decision.  The really tough part is that there is rarely ever,  a clear- cut,  right or wrong answer. In the end all you can do is at the cards…
