Woke up by gunshots

Lizze and I both woke up to the sound of gunshots.  I'm not sure what time it is but it's well after 1am. I'm not sure how close they were but they were really loud. It's kind hard to go back to sleep after hearing something like that. At least the boys slept through it.  I don't want to have to explain what that noise was. Gonna try to get back to sleep. I hope no one was hurt..... **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store Posted from WordPress for Android so please forgive any typos as auto-correct and I don't see eye to eye. :-)

Three’s a crowd

The last couple of nights Emmett hasn't been sleeping well.  Around midnight,  he makes his way into our bed and takes up all my space.  I'm not sure what's going on with him at moment but this doesn't promote a restful sleep as I end up on the couch. Then of course there's Bella. She follows Emmett and takes up the rest of my side of the bed.  It really doesn't bother me and in a way it's kinda cute. If I wanted to sleep in my bed I would just move Emmett back into his. However, if he sleeps better than it's totally worth it.  :-) I took this picture last night before moving to the couch. **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our…

Gavin’s Lego Creation: 04/29/2012

Gavin created this Lego creation for Emmett.  It's a transformer and Emmett loves it. However,  it's a bit to complex because it falls apart all the time, which frustrates Emmett. However,  it's a really creative transformer and it's also the thought that counts. **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store Posted from WordPress for Android so please forgive any typos as auto-correct and I don't see eye to eye. :-)

#Autism: Surviving the unexpected

This coming week is perhaps the busiest we have ever had.  When you are a special needs parent your schedule and time are not your own.  They are instead occupied by whatever your child needs. The Lost and Tired family is no stranger to this. Having said that,  we will be pushed this week,  much farther than we have in the past. Beginning Monday,  Emmett and I will drop Gavin and Lizze off at Akron Children's Hospital for a period of 48 hours.  During this time,  Gavin will undergo a VEEG to determine just how bad his seizures are. This is important for obvious reasons. During this time,  I will be home with Emmett.  Elliott will be at Lizze's parents house.  They will take Elliott to school and Emmett and…

#Autism: When services are lost

I spoke with all of you previously about Emmett's speech therapy and occupational therapy being taken away by the insurance company. I have since appealed those decisions and am awaiting the results. However,  yesterday we received another letter.  This time he it was informing us that physical therapy is being taken away as well. What's really confusing about this is that a few weeks ago it had been approved and now they are taking it away. I will be appealing this decision first thing Monday morning and we will also be working with an attorney that is currently trying to get legislation passed that will force carriers to cover Autism in Ohio. Elliott has also been denied once again as well.  My patience is nonexistent anymore and I'm prepared to…

#Autism: Aggressive Behavior

The Lost and Tired family is no stranger to aggression.  We've been dealing with it for years and years. However,  no matter how long you've been dealing with aggression, it never gets any easier. Emmett is the aggressor in the family at this point in time.  He's lashing out more and more often,  for seemingly no reason at all.  I know communication plays a role in this,  but I don't know how much.  Today alone,  Emmett injured Gavin at least 3 or 4 times by throwing objects at him. Elliott shares a very similar experience as Gavin but seems to be Emmett's primary target. I think Elliott is the main target because of how dramatically he reacts to Emmett. Emmett is a great kid and I love him dearly but…

Lost and Tired comments on intolerance

One of the things that my wife and I have always tried to do was take the high road.  We felt that it was always better to set an example for our kids. We addressed anything that needed addressed but not in a half-cocked or unproductive way. However,  having said that,  I'm beginning to rethink my approach.  For those of you that haven't seen this yet,  I want you to read this letter.  It was originally posted by Phillip Haines over at Autism Speaks. Please be aware that this letter is offensive and you might want to punch something when your done reading it.  Please do so in a safe and conditions constructive manner.     After reading this I was really, really angry. I know this wasn't written to…

#Autism question of the day: 04/29/2012

This is something that has recently hit the Lost and Tired family and so I'm curious as to just how common this is. How many of you have had to battle insurance for the services your kids need? If so, what was the reason for denial? **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store Posted from WordPress for Android so please forgive any typos as auto-correct and I don't see eye to eye. :-)
