Gavin’s Lego Creation: 05/05/2012

Gavin has been home for less than a day but has already been working on his next Lego creation. Today,  he is sharing his jumbo jet. He's afraid it looks like a rocket ship but I told him it looks like a jumbo jet.  It's a good sign that he's back to working on his Legos. **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store

#Autism and biting

I know that this issue has been talked to death about but here it is anyway.  Biting is a huge friggin problem for us right now or rather once again. The perpetrator is one Mr. Emmett John and the victims or victim,  is most often Gavin. Gavin hasn't even been home a full day and Emmett has already placed him in the menu.  We have been noticing this getting worse as more and more time passes without PT and OT. The problem seems to be related to many things.  I think it's sensory related,  a result on communication issues, frustration and control. OT and PT were really good outlets for him and we didn't seem to have this many issues.  Biting is a daily common problem and it's difficult to…

Rental cars and groceries

I heard back from Downtown Ford.  The problem with the Van is the torque converter.  That requires a rebuild of the transmission from what I understand.  The part won't even be in until sometime next week. I voiced my displeasure with how this van has treated us so far and considering all the sacrifices that have had to be made in order to replace our van that was stolen a few months ago,  this was unacceptable.  I'm picking up our rental car and then heading to the grocery store.  We are out of food and haven't been able to go since everything that has happened this week...happened. Hopefully we will have a chance to just rest at some point. I've been up since 3am with Elliott and I'm exhausted. **Thanks…

The New Journey: Autonomic Disorder

While I didn't get much sleep last night, I wanted to finish this update and explain what is going on at this point. In case you missed it, Gavin came home last night. He could have stayed longer but we needed to see how he will function back at home. He is drinking and keeping fluids down and that's a big thing. He's also drinking Boost for now, in place of solid food. While it may seem strange that a child going through what Gavin is going through has been released and sent home, it really isn't. In many cases, there isn't much that can be done for an autonomic disorder. I don't know a great deal about the intricacies involved but I think that it's one of those things where you…

The Lighter Side of #Autism: 05/05/2012

After all the fear and despair this week has brought, it was comforting for me to see this peacefully quiet moment. Bella is all curled up and snuggling with her friend Emmett John. I simply love these moments.  :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store

Does this make me a bad person?

In the Lost and Tired family, we don't believe in spanking or hitting.  So we have to do a lot of outside of the box thinking. We recently took in a puppy a couple of months ago. Bella has been a great edition to the Lost and Tired family. Although she doesn't require some patience and training. Elliott and Emmett are requiring a great deal of time, energy and most of all, patience.  I'm becoming increasingly overwhelmed and frustrated by their behavior. Their are both fanfreakingtastic kids and I love them completely. Having said that, sometimes I find myself wanting to use the training methods from Bella as a means of deterring the problem behavior with the boys. Basically,  it would go something like this.  When Emmett and Elliott were…

No, no, no… It’s way too early

It's like 3am and Elliott is awake and ready to start his day. This is not going to work.  Daddy is way to tired for this today. He and I have moved to the living room so that Emmett will go back to bed. Not the best way to begin the new day. **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store
