One more day

We have one more school day left for this year. Monday is Elliott's last day of school.  Tuesday is a field trip of sorts,  but it involves swimming and getting wet and we all know how Elliott dislikes getting wet.  I talked with Elliott at length and told him that it was his decision.  We thought it would be a great idea but we wouldn't make him go. I'm not sure what he's going to ultimately decide but so far he wants to stay home.  I told him this afternoon that we could talk about it this weekend and help him decide what he wants to do. I want him to be as independent as possible and I think this experience will be a good lesson.

#Autism Spotlight: Miche Mozaix puzzle piece jewelry

I would like to introduce you to Miche Mozaix. This is a company that makes handmade jewelry ,home decor and art from Mosaic Tile. They are a local business, based out of Cleveland, Ohio. They make some pretty incredible stuff. They also make some amazing #Autism Awareness pieces as well. See some examples in the picture below. What's even cooler about this company and something that you don't see very often, is that 100% of all puzzle piece jewelry sales benefit #Autism causes. One of those causes is Lost and Tired. Basically, anytime puzzle piece jewelry is purchased and the buyer adds "lost and tired" to the notes to seller, 20% of that sale goes to help the Lost and Tired family and Lost and Tired blog, including the Autism Help Forums. …

Bad back, flat tire and pouring rain. All for pancakes.

This morning didn't start out in a good foot.  My back is so bad that I can't tie my own shoes or even put my pants on by myself. Honestly,  anything that requires bending is incredibly painful.  It's been a few years since I have had a flare up like this. Anyway,  I had to take Elliott to school this morning and as we are walking out to the van,  in the rain,  I noticed we had a flat tire. I had to drag the compressor out of the garage and inflate the rest passenger side Tire as it was low by about 30 psi.  That was not a fun experience and it hurt really bad. Having said that,  it was all worth it and I would have gone though…

Forum Friday: #Autism and sexuality

I have neglected the forums with everything I have going on in my personal life.  However,  I mean to change this. We have 200+ members and I want to really focus on building this forum because I believe we can make a difference in each others lives. I think that it's important to have a place to go and talk with others in a similar situation. I like the idea that it's private and bully free. Starting tomorrow,  Friday,  June 1st, I will be hosting Forum Friday.  Every Friday,  we will have special topic that either I come up with or you suggest. All day long we will be exchanging our thoughts, opinions,  feelings and experiences on the special topic of the day. The topic for today will be,  #Autism…

I have to climb on my soapbox

I don't make it a habit of judging people because I know what it's like to be on the receiving end of that.  However,  I simply can't take it anymore. This is a general rant and is not directed at any one person in particular. Forgive me if I offend you. I am saying this not only as a parent but as a former firefighter and paramedic.  Please,  put your kids in a friggin carseat. There is absolutely no excuse not to.  When you leave the hospital after your child is born they ask you if you need a carseat.  You could have said yes and it would have been free.  I don't want to hear you can't afford one. There are organizations in your community that will provide you…

From my perspective: 05/31/2012

This may seem like an ordinary door.  However,  this door is very special to me.  In a matter of minutes,  my sweet little Elliott Richard will appear in the window and wave to me as he waiting to be dismissed. I love this door because,  every weekday,  without fail,  it delivers my first born to me and I'm always so excited to see him.  It used to deliver both Elliott and Gavin but Gavin is at home now.  Hopefully next year,  Gavin will be able to walk through this door at the end of the day once again.  :-)
