Need a laugh? Check this out.

We had to run an errand this afternoon.  This is what we found in the parking lot. You quote Mr.  Emmett John,  "Daddy, that car is ridiculous.  It's covered in paper." Yes Emmett,  it's ridiculous :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III. #Autism and the 4th of July

We made every attempt to make it to Youngstown today to celebrate the 4th of July with family.  All the kids were in the car and we even left the house. We have to run a couple of errands prior to actually heading towards Y-Town.  In the time it took to hit the store,  about an hour,  the temperature rose almost 10°F.  That put it at almost 100°F and we decided to pull the plug on our plans. Not only is it too hot for most people, but my boys with #Autism, simply don't handle the extreme temperatures.. In Gavin's case,  it could become a life threatening situation. The combination of his dysautonomia, the seereing heat and dehydration will lead to another hospital stay. It really does suck to have…

“Loving, supportive parent” or “a barer of false hope”?

I want to introduce to you all, my wife, Lizze. She's an admin on this site but rarely ever posts. I asked her to post this today because I really, really liked what she had to say. I think that it's an important message that may apply to many of us. If you want to read more of her writings, please visit her blog at www.mylifebeyondlabels.com.   So Gavin has been having a more difficult time of things lately. Which makes me sad, not just as a mother but as his mother. Gavin is like a bead on a string - forever moving, forever changing...nothing is ever the same with him. One day he's high functioning, full fledged Asperger's-type behavior. The next he's lower functioning, and acting more like a stereo-typical Autistic child, Then…

Today’s Victory: Never give up

I just going to cut to the chase.  Today’s Victory goes to Gavin and let me tell you,  this is a big one. Emmett dropped Elliott current favorite toy down the vent. Elliott has been beside himself with anxiety and grief. Gavin had tried previously to reach into the tiny opening but couldn't feel anything. He decided to give it one last try because he knew it was important to Elliott.  He actually found and recovered the lost toy. He just made Elliott's day.  Hi-fives were had by all.  :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III. Special needs parenting and those tough decisions

Lizze and I never have the luxury of easy decisions.  For example,  we would like to go celebrate the 4th of July with family in Youngstown,  Ohio.  This is one of the few times where we cod actually pull it off. So often we are unable to go for one reason or another. The problem,  or rather the concern about going is the weather. It's supposed to be in the high 90's again and the humidity will likely be worse.  Where we are going,  the boys would not be able to spend much time inside and they don't handle the heat well at all,  especially Gavin.  Don't get me started on all the safety and health related reasons for Gavin alone.  The reasons not to go simply outweigh the reasons…

What I found during an imaginary train ride with my kids

Yesterday, I was hanging out with Elliott and Emmett, trying to redirect them away from the meldowns Gavin was having throughout the day. That is often easier said than down. However, Emmett has been pushing the dinning room chairs together lately and pretending it's a train. That in and of itself is awesome to see. Anyway, yesterday I was in desperate need of finding my happy place. I always joke around about that all the time. Well, It's more like 60% joking and 40% serious. Actually, it's more like 40% joking and 60% serious. You get the point. I figured, why not take a ride on Emmett's imaginary train and see what I can find along the way. Elliott and Emmett really got into it and so I thought I…
