Please keep Lizze in your thoughts today

As you may recall reading,  Lizze is having good major back problems.  She has been waiting for insurance to approve an MRI. This was accomplished awhile ago,  however,  each time she scheduled for it,  Gavin ended up in the friggin hospital. She will finally get that desperately needed MRI done this morning. She's in a great deal of pain,  so she nervous about being able to lay still during the process. We have decided that our best bet would be to divide and conquer.  My mother will pick her up in the morning and escort her to the hospital and ring her home safely upon completion of the imaging. Her doctor suspects to find either a herniation or something called spinal stenosis. I have a herniation myself and have been…

I had to patch up Bella this evening

Bella got into her badges this evening and I was forced to remove as much of the as I could. Having many years as a paramedic under my belt helped with this.  Having said that,  we did run into a problem and will have to get Bella,  back into the vet in the morning.  Most of the badges came off,  however there is a section that appears to be stuck to the actual sutures and I was not comfortable removing that.  I ran out to Walgreens and bought a bunch of clean wrap and patched her back up.  That should hold her until we can get back into the vet.  My guess is that they would simply remove the tape but they are move skilled in that department and I…

Confronting negative behavior

We had a very interesting session with Dr. Patti tonight.  We discussed Gavin's interactions with Lizze. Gavin is very mean and disrespectful to her and it's really getting to a point that Lizze is quite upset by this and frankly,  so am I. When with a child that has #Autism or maybe other mental health issues like Gavin,  it's so difficult to tell what is what. Factor in puberty and the teenage years and the water surrounding certain behavioral issues get even murkier. The Lost and Tired family is there right now with Gavin. Dr.  Patti,  Lizze and myself sat down with Gavin tonight and had a very open,  honest and disturbing conversation with him.  It was made clear to him from the start that he wasn't in trouble but…

Common Ground

One of the issues I see in the #Autism community is that instead of standing together as one,  cohesive unit,  we allow ourselves to be fragmented by our differences. Personally,  I find this to be heartbreaking. This can lead to unpleasant things and takes our focus off of what truly matters the most,  our children. I thought it would be nice if we introduce ourselves to each other and share a bit about our personal stories.  I feel that when we get to know each other on a more personal level and see how much we all have in common,  we will see that we aren't that different after all. Please,  if your comfortable,  introduce yourself in the comments below. Feel free to tell us as much or as little…

Gavin is slipping back into bad habits

Gavin has been slowly and steadily making a backwards slide back into old habits.  Several times now,  we have caught him lying to us.  He's also trying to put Lizze and I against each other at times as well. Have you ever seen the movie called The Good Son. If you have,  that's what it feels like with Gavin. For those that haven't seen the movie,  basically their is a boy that presents himself one way but is someone else all entirely when no one is looking. You really should watch the movie. I'm not saying Gavin is kind of psycho killer, like the boys in the movie,  but there are still similarities in behavior. I don't know what to think of his actions.  They could be explained away by…

Wednesday Occupational Therapy and Speech: 08/08/2012

Emmett had therapy this afternoon. He did awesome once again. He is so excited to be back that he can't decide what he wants to do.  He lost a great deal of strength during the 4 month insurance based banishment from the help he so desperately needs.  It's going to be an uphill journey to get back where he was but I know without a doubt that between Emmett's tenacity and the dedicated staff at Concorde Kids,  he'll get there. **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III. The nose bleed

Elliott got so upset this morning,  that he gave himself a bloody nose. I don't know how to help the poor kid.  He's just really,  really struggling right now.  As soon as records are received by his pediatrician,  we'll able to start something for his anxiety. Until that time,  it's gonna be a bumpy ride.  I'm going to spend for one on one time with Elliott and try to bring his anxiety down. I have just way to much to do and since Lizze can't drive right now,  this is very challenging. **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III.…

#Autistic Lego Creations: Submarine

Elliott created this Lego Submarine and is very,  very proud of it.  He even created an escape sub,  incase they take on water.  :-) I love to see these #Autistic Lego Creations because they give me insight into how his beautiful mind works.  :-) **Thanks for reading**        -Lost and Tired Please join our Autism Help Forum Look for "Autism Help" app at the Google Play Store This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung's Galaxy S III.
