#Autism and Angry Birds: A match made in heaven

I really don't need to ask this but,  how many of your little ones love to play Angry Birds? Just about everyone has their hands up.  :-) My boys love Angry Birds.  They love the plushies,  the video games and now the board game. Alright,  it's not really a board game but it's definitely not a video game either. This game came with actual parts,  angry birds,  naughty piggies and all the pieces to create your own levels.  Then you get to actually fling your angry birds from the included sling shot/catapult thing and take the pigs out.  Elliott came home with this from the Hamptons but I'm sure you can find it elsewhere. This is a really cool way to experience the game.  It also helps with fine motor…

My ball of anxiety

Elliott is extremely anxious.  I know that there a many factors at work here but we need to really push to get him back on something for anxiety. With school starting in a few days,  I'm not sure how well he will be able to cope.  Having said that,  school may just be what he needs to help him feel a bit more secure.  Perhaps the routine and time away from Gavin and Emmett will give him the break he needs.  He did fantastic while he was in the Hamptons and typically does better when he's away from Gavin. I hate even saying that but the proof is in the pudding, so to speak. There is a consistent improvement in Elliott's overall demeanor and relationship with Emmett,  when Gavin's not…

How are your kids handling being back to school?

My boys don't head back until Tuesday, so how it's going to go is yet unwritten.  However,  I'm preparing for the typical issues we see, going into the new school year. Elliott will likely be extremely, extremely anxious. I mean,  he's already extremely anxious.  It's not going to take much to add another extremely.......... Gavin on the other hand is very excited to go back. The problem is that I have no idea how long his body is going to able to cope. How are your kids handling being back to school? Gavin’s “drinking” problem

For the past year or two,  Gavin has been aggressively taking in fluids throughout the day.  It was to the point that he was constantly asking to refill his water bottle.  It would honestly get annoying at times because it was like no sooner was his water bottle filled, than he chugged it down. We never really concerned ourselves with it because he couldn't always have been doing something worse, right? Gavin's autonomic specialist has out him on strict fluid intake restrictions.  This is because he is in medications to retain water, so they don't want him taking in too much. Gavin is allowed 2 liters of fluids,  per day.  Those fluids can be water or gatorade. He's not longer allowed things like juice or pop,  but that's actually a…

The Lighter Side of #Autism: Meet wormy

One to coolest things I've found for the boys,  especially Emmett,  is these magnetic balls. They are basically, magnetic marbles.  You can create all kinds of cool things.  Sometimes,  however, it's the simple things that are the most fun.  Wormy is made by Mr.  Emmett John.  He loves making simple or more complex things with these special magnets. It's the little things in life.  :-) This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung’s Galaxy S III. Please forgive any typos. I do know how to spell but auto-correct hate me. Will you be vaccinating for Whooping Cough?

With Whooping Cough coming back with a vengeance,  the CDC now recommends booster shots in order to help keep you and your family safe.  Whooping cough has already been declared epidemics on the west coast and most of the USA is reporting significant increases in infections.  I want to get a feel for how the community is reacting to this advice.  Are you concerned about Whooping Cough? Have you spoken with your doctor to get the facts?  Do you think that you will get vaccinated?  What about your kids? How do you feel about this in general? Please keep this respectful and treat each other with respect.  :-) This was posted via WordPress for Android, courtesy of Samsung’s Galaxy S III. Please forgive any typos. I do know how to…

CDC recommends booster shots for whooping cough outbreak

CDC recommends booster shots for whooping cough outbreak. Courtesy of Fox News http://fxn.ws/PzurdE I talked about Whooping Cough the other day but hadn't realized just how bad things have gotten. More states have declared a Whooping Cough epidemic and majority of the USA has reported significant increases in cases. This is really scary. This is the article from Fox News. You can follow the above link for the original article. If you thought whooping cough went the way of beriberi and other 19th-century diseases with fanciful names, think again. Whooping cough is back with a vengeance with the worse outbreak in the United States in 50 years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As of this month, 46 states have reported increases in cases compared with…

Operation Hope: Artwork

I'm trying to focus on as much of the positive as I can. While that's honestly not very easy, I'm really putting an effort into it. That is why I can decided to call this new journey Operation Hope. Basically, Operation Hope is a process of not only helping Gavin but also the Lost and Tired family's effort to reclaim our lives and begin the process of healing. As part of this, I have decided to create a button or logo to symbolize what we are trying to save. The first battle of Operation Hope, is getting Gavin medically stabilized so that residential treatment is possible. Only then will the healing begin, for anyone. This is just a rough draft and it needs cleaned up a bit but I wanted to share this with you all…
